Liam Hemsworth launches programme to help youth manage their money
Hollywood heartthrob Liam Hemsworth has today launched in King George Square ‘My Money My
Choice’, an initiative of the Sunshine Bank and Youth off the Streets which will help youth to manage
their money. ‘My Money My Choice’ encourages responsible money management for youth and
under the programme people aged 16 to 21 will be able to access a prepaid debit card with no
annual fees to assist them to manage their finances.
Father Joe Riley, the founder of Youth off the Streets, recognises the challenges young people face.
“Our youth are struggling with the costs of living in Australia. They can’t afford the basic costs of
food, clothing and ho using. We are seeing that first hand at Youth off the Streets”. Homelessness in
Australia has increased in recent years with xx% of people living on the streets being 21 years or less.
Liam Hemsworth will represent this important initiative and has signed a 12 month contract with the
Sunshine Bank to promote ‘My Money My Choice’. “As a teenage actor, I remember the challenges I
faced managing my money to make ends meet” Liam said. “Teenagers will be able to access
information under ‘My Money My Choice’ to h elp them make smarter decisions about their money”.
This information will be available via Liam’s YouTube page [LINK] and messaging on his Facebook
[LINK] and Twitter [LINK] accounts.
Under the programme people aged 16 to 21 will also be able to access a p re-paid debit card so they
don’t enter into credit card debt. Sunshine Bank CEO Eddy Moves recognises the costs young people
face in Australia today and has said “unlike other banks who charge exhorbinant fees for prepaid
credit cards, there will be no fee s on our card”.
The prepaid debit card will assist youth to manage the costs of living and research suggests the card
will be used by teenagers to purchase food, petrol, technologies and clothing. Father Riley has said
“this debit card will help our young people to access the basic necessities they need to be able to live
in Australia today”.
Father Reily has thanked the Sunshine Bank for their generousity in donating $50 towards the Youth
off the Streets Winter appeal for each person who signs up for a car d. He said “this money will be
used to purchase much needed blankets and clothing to keep our homelessness warm this Winter”.
People aged 16 to 21 can sign up for the prepaid debit card by completing a quick and easy form
