SOC-326-Q3488 Sociology of Deviant Behavior
Dr. Jeff Houser
Taylor, H. (2010). Sociology. New York: Cengage. Clinard, M., & Meier, R. (2008). Sociology of deviant behavior. New York: Cengage.
In this article, Taylor argues that deviant is created when a member of the society formulates different norms whose violation amounts to punishment. In contrast to the below article, deviant, in this case, involves invention, selection, and manipulation of various beliefs that negatively defines behavior or practice. Taylor suggests that prostitution is a social construction which seizes to exist if those who engage in it are not labeled as deviants. There is a heavy punishment by the society to those who are found engaging in prostitution. , even though this does not prevent the culprits to involve themselves in the act.
As they continue to associate themselves with prostitution, they receive more punishment and stigma from their members of the community. Therefore, they continue to engage in the act knowing better that they cannot be accepted back to the society. Consequently, this means that the prostitutes practice the action not because they want to, but it’s because they have been labeled as prostitutes.
Arditi, Lynn (October 3, 2009). "Bill Signing Finally Outlaws Prostitution." Providence Journal. Archived from the original on October 7, 2011.
This article Arditi talks about the various signs of prostitution. Many of the symptoms of prostitution coincide with the constituent elements of human trafficking, for example, sexual exploitation or recruitment, this is the reason why when it comes to human trafficking, the crime can also be called as profiting from prostitution or involvement with the prostitution. According to Lynn(2009), it is tough to determine the scope of prostitution. The data of prostitution and human tracking extent is sketchy and unreliable and very hard to compare.

"Prostitution and the sex discrepancy in reported number of sexual partners" (pdf). Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. 97 (22): 12385–12388.
According to Devon D he describes prostitution as just another form of casual sex, and it is not that harmful if it can be regulated, even though casual sex, in general, is not harmful , prostitution, on the other hand, is, to prove this , the author states that sex is a joint action with its main aim to be sexual enjoyment . Prostitution fails to achieve this good by admiring their partners to mistreat one another. Besides that, the article presents a path at the middle between the radical feminist critique of prostitution and libertarian feminism. Prostitution in conjunction with marriage falls into dominant male categories.

In this journal, the primary question which the paper lately focus on is obscure and largely ignored. That is deviance in women. The main point here is to try and delineate certain lines between the female sexual role and the character of the female defiance when it comes to drinks. Given that, participation in activities especially in challenging part in specific areas such as prostitution, given that most prostitutes are women and mostly African-American. The main points which the author notes down, what is the characteristic of the female sex role are conducive which causes some women to join prostitution, and also why is that prostitution is women a new form of defiance. In the journal it is argued that tends to utilize the same attributes towards the end of the spree; That is the transition from non-deviant to deviant.
Clinard, Cheryl; Roberts, Albert R.; Wolbert Burgess, Ann (2012). Victimology: Theories and Applications. Jones & Bartlett Publishers. ISBN 978-1449665333.
In this article, according to Clinard (2012) prostitution is termed as an act or practice that involves providing sexual services in exchange of money, in most countries the action is legalized while in other countries. It attracts very severe punishment. Prostitution is viewed as a profession since there is a level I of expert, skills, and practices that are required to complete the services.
Religious teachings view prostitution as a sinful act which should be condemned. The social audience also has a negative attitude towards since they believe that, sex is only meant for procreation and not for mere pleasure, therefore commercializing is prohibited. The medical ground also condemned the act since they pose that it facilitates the spread of sexually transmitted infection. Therefore, the action is named as a deviant behavior since it does not meet the moral standard in religion and medical perspectives., the prostitutes are also named abnormal because they are ready to sell their bodies in exchange for widely materials such as cars and many more. To sum up, from the above articles it shows that prostitution is considered to be deviant behavior, the reason as to why most people engage in prostitution is best known to them and just like any other behavior, one can learn the act through interacting with other people.
