Final At Home Assignment (HIST 1301):
Lincoln and Union Preservation
Using our textbook and the provided source links write a response answering the following (SLO1, SLO2, SLO 4):
Some have criticized Abraham Lincoln for not making slavery a central issue in the American Civil War earlier than he did. While he may have disliked the institution of slavery, Lincoln had a higher priority on his mind…that of saving the Union and preventing a permanent split in the United States.
Based on the readings provided and using the Ethical Reflection Process (see the file posted in the ‘files’ section titled “Ethical Reflection Process Brother Larry”), was Lincoln acting ethically when he made the decision to not use slavery as a reason to go to war with the South?
There is no page limit, but I expect a good 1-2 page, typed, double spaced, response that references both the articles and the Ethical Reflection Process to support your response. Use Times New Roman font 12, one inch margins (the same as is on this assignment). You should type in your answers and submit them online either via text or .doc. TURNITIN will be used to evaluate the responses for plagiarism. Total 15 pts
Please note that you must use information in all provided links and your text to answer the questions (ie must cite each one of them at least once)

In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war. The government will not assail you. You can have no conflict, without being yourselves the aggressors. You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to "preserve, protect and defend" it.
