- Project Description
The project is the current Burnaby hospital is too expensive to upgrade or renovate and a new hospital would be more cost effective. So, a new hospital will be built at the corner of Willingdon and Canada Way.
- Project Purpose
The purpose is to know how to manage the relocation of hospital furnishings, equipment supplies and patients to new facility without disruption to the patients. It is to upgrade surrounding roadways, sidewalks, utilities infrastructure, hospital interior and hospital furnishing. The hospital relocation is carefully designed to meet the needs of patients, ensuring the greatest benefit for the best value. The plan made over the last few years proposes a multi phased project that could potentially cost up to $ 622.5 million to relocate.
- Assumptions
The low to zero tolerance for any project that might limit capacity even temporarily and infrastructure obstacles such as narrow structural bays, low floor-to-floor height. The existing hospital must remain fully operational and continue to provide all the services during construction of the facility. Proponents were required to submit a financial submission along with their final technical submission.
- Constraints
Infrastructure and supplies may not only influence care for patients but also influence motivation, performance, and the wellbeing of staff. Poor planning at the time of construction leads to problems in multiple serious cases. Delayed arrival of essential supplies and stock-up’s put pressure on nurses. Being accepted by the local community is of utmost important to the staff living in communities. The helipad on the roof of top floor may receive only the lighter air corps helicopters. For the coast guard and marine rescue helicopter, prior license should be taken. Health care workers and patients subject to illness from a variety of airborne pathogens common to hospital settings. This risk increases during construction and renovation because it releases dust and microbes into the surrounding environment. It budget would be around $400,000 toward the super track expansion and $600,000 to develop Burnaby hospital’s new expansion.
- Risks
Risks associated with a hospital relocation include State the known risks.
Inadequate crisis code preparing for staff and failure of the code framework.
Inadequate staff preparing in new medical clinic frameworks.
Staff disorientation at the new site.
Poor commitment of directors in the movement, arranging and usage.
- Project Deliverables
The inputs for the project are information, document, plan, equipment, money, software. For the given inputs, the outputs are consultation, project plan, test results, contracts. The hospital will be located in the area characterized by a medium density of construction. the buildings of the hospital will be at a same distance. Design and construction of new radiology and CT rooms and associated supportive services, relocation of ambulance station, new data center to support improved information systems. Upgrade surrounding roadways, sidewalks and utilities infrastructure: water, sewer, gas, electricity onto the site. Purchase and install hospital furnishings- furniture, office equipment, non- medical.

John Smith | Process owner | Ensure the improvements and incorporated into standard operating procedures and sustained. |
Peter Clark | Business analyst | Documents and analyses process using value added, process modeling tools and cost time charts. |
Robert Lit | Stakeholder | Stakeholders are responsible for reviewing deliverable project items. |
- Project Life Cycle Methodology and Tools
The project life cycle methodology includes four stages. Initial process, planning process, executing process, closing process. This project can use different methodologies like waterfall- type life cycle, critical path method, lean project management. The waterfall methodology can be used for this because this model is easy to understand. The division between stages is easy to grasp. The sharp focus on gathering and understanding requirements make the waterfall model heavily reliant on documentation. It is helpful to easily copy plans from previous project and apply them to current work with little or no adjustment.
