Final Reflection Essay
The final assignment for the class is a reflection essay where you will demonstrate your understanding of the course material and application of the course learning objectives. This will be done by providing the seven most important lessons learned throughout this course with evidence from the course readings, discussion articles, and discussions to reflect your understanding. (10 points per lesson) You will also have to choose two learning objectives from the list below to incorporate into your seven lessons. (5 points per learning objective) They don't have to replace a lesson, merely compliment them.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify and describe the meanings of group identities and the processes of group development across a range of historical periods and cultures.
2. Apply and analyze theories of gender role development.
3. Identify and explain historical and contemporary social problems related to sex and gender, as well as the institutions designed to address each issue.
4. Develop and communicate solutions to the contemporary problems associated with sex, gender, and sexual orientation.
5. Develop and apply solutions to contemporary social problems associated with sex and gender.
6. Analyze their own attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs regarding the intersection of different statuses, such as social class, race, and sex and gender.
The seven lessons should be provided in essay format beginning with an introduction that discusses what you knew, felt, believed, etc. about sex, gender, and society prior to taking this class and what social forces or institutions shaped your view. The conclusion to the essay should include what you know, feel, believe, etc. about sex, gender, and society now that you are completing this course. (Introduction and conclusion are each worth 10 points) College-level writing is expected so deductions will be made for spelling and grammatical errors and if proper citations are not included.
You may use some information from your reading responses but the final reflection essay should reflect an original essay that is not merely copied and pasted from a previous document. I would highly recommend taking notes on the readings and discussion articles throughout the semester to help you determine your seven lessons and refresh your memory as to what readings or course material will help to provide the evidence of your lessons.
