Assignment – Lamp holder
The drawing below shows the main parts of a lamp holder. Part A is the base and Part B is the column. Part A is made of aluminium and Part B is made of mild steel.Diameter 12 mm mild steel rod and 42mm thick aluminium sheets are available in the workshop.
You are required to describe thoroughly how the two parts can be fabricated in the workshop so that they can be properly assembled. Your description should include:
1. Choosing the appropriate machining methods.
2. The machining processes performed including the parameters considered. You should give the range of rpm available in the machines and the ones chosen. The values of other parameters chosen should also be included and justified. Information taken from handbooks/websites should be clearly referenced.
3. The threading process.
4. A pocket milled in the base of part A.
5. Design of a rod which will articulate with part B and which will hold the lamp.
6. Safety precautions that should be taken in the workshop during the production process.
