My topic of research will be about gender-based violence.im choosing this topic because it has been the most significant issue that has risen with the covid-19 pandemic changed the way of life. Gender violence has been explained as a form of violence against women by their spouses (Jones et al., 2017). However, recent statistics have shed a different light on what gender-based violence means. This topic is essential because of its relevance in the covid-19 lockdown period and the new information about the subject.
Compared to the recent past, the number of women calling in the police department for help due to domestic violence has increased and doubled in other countries. Although Lockdown is one of the globally recommended measures to reduce the spread of covid-19, what it means to most women and girls is that they are trapped at home with an abusive spouse (Kem, 2020). What is more interesting is that gender-based violence perpetrators are not only spouses but fathers siblings and other family members, an aspect that gives the topic more loopholes to fill. This kind of violence may destabilize the social setup that was before the pandemic because, in most cases, this violence leads to loss of life, broken marriages, and homeless children.
Gender-based violence has been viewed as a kind of abuse that affects women and girls only. However, statistics show that men from most parts of the world suffer violence. In most parts of the world, such cases are not heard (Nigam, 2020). This is due to the cultural setup, and the status men have been accorded by society. According to other research studies and recent information, gender violence does not only physically affects its victims but emotionally and psychologically as well. Therefore, this new and unexploited information about this subject makes it exciting and valid for a research topic for my study.
