Religious Fundamentalism and the Rise of the Christian Right
Fundamentalism is described as “a perceptible model of religious militancy by which self-molded “true believers” endeavor to seize the corrosion of religious identity, reinforce the religious borders and make viable options to secular behaviors and institutions. Religious fundamentalism has been rising into universal eminence since the 1970s. There is a significant connection between religious fundamentalism and the rise of the Christian right. It is due to religious fundamentalism that Christians now have their rights, which didn’t exist in the past. In this research paper, we will cover various things to understand the connection between religious fundamentalism and Christian rights. First, I will review research on fundamentalist organizations or movements to learn what religious fundamentalisms are, the reasons they appear to be resurging, their links to violence, their characteristics, and their connection to modernity. Secondly, I will cover the history of Christian fundamentalism from the late 19th and early 20th and how it has progressed with time. Thirdly, I will discuss different interpretations of Christian fundamentalism and how they have changed over time. Furthermore, a discussion on fundamentalism and modernity will be reviewed. Finally, there will be a discussion on how the evolution of religious fundamentalism led to Christian rights. The research paper will use related studies and some of such works can be found on the reference page.
