Final Project:
The final project will involve data manipulations and answering questions using two analytical programs. SAS and SPSS.
In SAS:
Read and save the file “Final Project” This is the AHCA inpatient data file for the first quarter of 2016.
The file layout (variable names and locations ) are found in the Excel file called ‘Data Format’
The variable formats are found in the Inpatient Data Layout 2015Q4…. Pdf file.
Create libraries for the data and format files.
Save a 15% sample of records where the primary diagnosis is ischemic heart disease (ICD 10 code I25.10 to I25.9).
Using the array procedure calculate the proportion of Non-Hispanic Whites and Hispanics who received percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTCA) (ICD10 code 027004Z to 027V3ZZ).
Look for procedures in principal procedure and other procedures.
Write a short paragraph detailing the data management procedures you just did.
Conduct the appropriate statistical procedure to answer the question posed in item 4. What are the odds?
Is there a difference in the proportion of NH-Whites and Hispanics who are admitted through the various means? Is the difference statistically significant?
Save (export) your SAS file to SPSS format.
In SPSS:
Read several data files from outside SPSS.
These are DEMOS, MEDICAL, AND SMOKING.
There are two cycles, 13-14 and 15-16. The cycle for each file is reflected in the file name.
Save the files in SPSS format.
Merge each of the 3 files from each cycle.
Merge both cycles into one file.
Save a 20% sample of records and a limited number of demographic variables.
Run a frequency on several variables.
Using the SPSS exported from SAS (step 8 above) run a T-test to determine if the length of stay (LOS) is significantly different for males vs. females.
Write a paragraph about your findings
