After you have read my presentation with the script –add notes on each slide of what I presented for each slide. You must read it all and do something similar to my group classmates did here is a sample I want you to do similar format, but with my CONTENT (uploaded to you for each slide with the add notes –speaking notes I used):
2) Influence vs. Manipulation 7 minutes
In order to deepen the class’ understanding of influence, it is important to stimulate conversation on the difference between influence and manipulation. Ask for two volunteers to state, in their own words, the definition of influence and manipulation. Acknowledge and expand on their ideas and the connotations of both words.
Touch upon the similarities between influence and manipulation and relate back to the needs assessment findings. Provide the dictionary definition of influence and clarify its effect by using Anthony Carbajal as a positive influence example. Show a portion of Anthony’s Ice Bucket Challenge and ask the class to consider how Anthony connects and influences his audience in the YouTube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h07OT8p8Oik (2:35 - 3:53) Break down Anthony’s objectives and how he spreads his message in a clear and congruent way.
Provide the dictionary definition of manipulation and quote Cynthia de Petris, Los Angeles lawyer. Explain how Cynthia views manipulation in her line of work.
Review the differences between influence and manipulation. Challenge the class to reflect on a time in which they manipulated another person. Question the success of using manipulation in the long run. Main point: Reputation and credibility is shattered when trust is broken. Think before saying and question the motive of your argument (selfish or for the greater good - manipulation or positive influence).
Another sample of my other classmate for his part:
My presentation started off with asking the audience to fill out an evaluation form to get them engaged about thinking of the last time they tried influencing someone using commitment and consistency. That way they would have some familiarity with the content I was about to present. I then asked the class questions if they knew committed and consistent people, while using a joke of Saint Patrick's day, to get the audience entertained. Then I introduced Robert Cialdini’s Pre-Suasion book and the reason I chose this book was because after doing intensive research, I knew I initially wanted to talk about consistency. When I found Dr. Cialdini’s segment of consistency AND commitment, it became very obvious that the two correlate to each other and would be a very beneficial lesson. So I utilized his six steps of consistency and three steps of commitment. After speaking with Dr. Ensher and how she was also teaching the same book to her class, I knew this was a great author to utilize as a resource. However, before I started presenting, I incorporated a personal example to get the audience engaged and as a real life example, people might try to personally use mental imagery to see the last time they used consistency and commitment.Below are my summarized six steps of consistency and the three steps of commitment. I went into detail of each example and provided examples when applicable. As a final way to make it apparent that consistency and commitment is beneficial is by incorporating it with the show “The Office” and how the manager, Michael, is consistently harassing the human resource rep, Toby. After consistently doing this, it has started to influence co workers of the Office, and coworkers start to harass Toby themselves. Then to sum everything up and see if my lesson was effective, I had people fill out the other side of my evaluation form, and it deemed to be effective as 75% of the forms showed improvement and that they would like to use consistency and commitment.
The six steps of consistency were:
Be consistent and true to your word
Always explain “why.”
Ask someone to Volunteer
Volunteers are important
Age matters
Report back on the results of commitments made and executed.
The three steps of commitment were:
Get a commitment.
Report Back
Be consistent with everyone
***YOU NEED TO DO MINE SIMILAR TO THE FORMAT(STRUCTURE YOU SEE IN BOTH SAMPLES) AFTER YOU HAVE READ MY PRESENTATION WORKSHOP AND ADD NOTES FOR EACH SLIDE . It is basically what I did in my workshop you are explaining it again, similar format as 2 samples given
