Length: The assignment should be five to seven pages, excluding title page and reference page

Important: You will continue with the same organization you selected in Assignment 1.

Focus: For this assignment, analyze the ways power and politics have influenced an organization’s culture. You’ll apply best practices you learned in course resources and your own research to make recommendations for improving this organization’s culture.

Key considerations:

  • Power and politics greatly influence an organization’s culture. In business, the culture can make or break an organization’s productivity.

  • You will make recommendations on how to improve the culture in your selected organization, focusing on the problem and weaknesses you identified in Assignment 1

  • The purpose of this position paper is to present and support your recommendations to improve the culture.

  • Research the organizational culture of your selected organization and any articles related to the topic and relevant to your research.

References needed: at least two quality resources such as the course textbook, company website, business websites (CNBC, Bloomberg, etc.), resources from the Strayer Library, and/or outside sources. Note: Wikipedia and web-based blogs do not qualify as credible resources.

Assignment 3: Position Paper: Power, Politics, and Culture

Introduction

In this section, provide a brief introduction of the company you focused on in Assignment 1 and restate the problem you identified.

1.Influence of Politics and Power

  • Explain how politics and power-play may have influenced the organization’s culture. Focus on your selected company. Check out Chapter 12 for information on this topic.

2. Sources of Power

  • Review the sources of power as described in the textbook (Chapter 12, pages 263-264)

  • Discuss how these sources of power could be used by management to improve organizational performance and benefit your department. Be specific about how you will use them (actionable items).

3. Leadership Behavior and Culture

  • Provide specific recommendations (and justify each) explaining how the study of power and politics could influence the leadership behavior.

  • Discuss how influencing the leadership behavior as a result of these recommendations could improve the organizational culture. Check out chapters 13 and 14 for details.

4.Leadership Influence

  • First, discuss the importance and complexity of leadership behavior.

  • Second, discuss how leadership behavior influence organizational structure.

  • Third, discuss how leadership behavior influence performance (individual and organizational). Check out Chapters 13 and 14 for details.

5. Executive Summary

  • Summarize your recommendations for ways in which the organization could build a stronger culture. Focus on the actionable items you recommended.

  • It should summarize briefly all the main points in questions 1-4 in concise paragraphs.

  • It should be written clearly and should use language appropriate for the audience.

  • You will write this last.

  • This should be one page in length.
