Original Question

Identify and explain the “roadmap” concept within coaching. Provide a clear example of a) why this is important to meeting objectives with a client and b) how this maintains integrity within the coaching process

Response 1, by Addie

The roadmap concept in coaching identifies key elements in where you want to go in life and maps out a course for you to get there. According to Phillip and Jane Mountrose, there are seven important steps encompassed in the roadmap. The steps consist of setting on a course, find out what your heart desires are, make a connection with those desires, clear any obstacles that may cause you to stray from your path, let go of the past change your mindset into manifesting your dreams and take appropriate actions to get there.

This is important to meeting the objective of the clients because to get to where they want to be they have to not only know where they are, where they are want to go and to develop a plan to get there. Without a plan of action a lot of time could be wasted either doing nothing but thinking about your goals or finding ways to talk yourself out of doing the things to get you to where you want to be.

This maintains integrity within coaching because you are not simply telling the client what to do and how to do it but letting them come up with helpful solutions to their problems. From start to finish the client is being interactive and can see an outline of what they want and how to get it. Coaching is not about the coach taking over the clients thought process but guiding them it and finding a process that works for them.
