1) There are two ways I found that allowed me to send SMS messages to my phone. One was using Verizon's Message+ app which could downloaded for both your cellphone and a PC or tablet. I installed it on my phone and PC but didn't really like the feel of it, especially after reading further down the page and discovering the second way. I can exchange text messages with other Verizon users simply by typing in their phone number (no dashes) on my preferred e-mail program and adding “@vtext.com” to the end (Send text messages using email or a computer
, 2018, para. 9) . The recipient can simply reply back and I'll get the message via e-mail. Pretty simple. I like the simplest methods because, many times, they're the most elegant; I didn't need to install any special apps and it still provided seamless communications with whoever I needed to contact.
With respect to e-mail, all my accounts are linked to my phone as well so if I receive an e-mail on one of my accounts my phone gets it and sounds an alert. Actually, most of the time it buzzes because I can't stand the constant beeps and other noises it makes when I get a 1) Facebook message, 2) a Messenger message, 3) an e-mail, or 4) an SMS message, so I always turn the volume down to vibrate. I enjoy being connected as much as the next guy but I'm honestly glad I can't bring my phone into our office because I don't have to worry about the false sense of urgency to reply or acknowledge everything that cell phone technology gives us.

2) So sending text messages via email is something that I do pretty regularly with my wife. When she is not at work and around the island of Oahu, I will send her a SMS to her phone from my Navy email. Sprint is pretty easy to do this, you are not required to download an application or any software you simply sent an email to an address which is the [email protected] (Kimball). The recipient then receives the message from the email address. The whole process works near real time and there is not much lag in the messages, maybe 30 seconds, if that. This feature is very helpful when I am trying to communicate, but do not have access to my phone. I am unable to bring my personal cell phone into my work so it helps me to keep in touch with important people without the use of an actual phone call.
I used to have alerts sent via text message to my phone before I started to really use data. I would get a message that let me know I had mail. This worked for a little while until I started getting 20-30 notifications a day. While the text messages were free, it was annoying so I turned the feature off. Now that data is included in my cell plan, I have no need for the notification as I get notified by my iPhone that I have email.
