Introduction

Supply chain refers to the process of involving people, resources activities, information, and activities in the movement of goods and services from supplier to customers (Carter, 2017). The events of the supply chain involve the conversion of natural resources and raw materials into a finished product where customer consumed it. Supply chain management is responsible for planning and managing all activities that are involved in sourcing, conversion and all logistics activities. This paper seeks to discuss the process of supply chain and logistics management.

In the supply chain, there is coordination and collaboration of partner’s channel such as suppliers, intermediaries, customers and third-party service providers. Supply chain grows from ecological, biological, and political regulation of natural resources (Carter, 2017). Finally, extraction of raw materials by human and several processes are involved. They include component construction, assembly, and merging. Then get stored where they are kept in different sizes that are affordable for the consumer. Supply chain involved separate transactions that are done in companies where they aim to maximize the profit.

There is a different type of models that try to explain the elements of the supply chain that is the vendor, second supplier, manufacture, and customer. The first model is supply chain operations reference. The model was developed by a consortium of industry and non-profit supply chain council. Its function is to measure the total supply chain performance (Ellinger, 2016). It used as process reference during spanning from the suppliers to the customers. It involves order fulfillment performance, production flexibility, warranty, return processing cost, assets, and inventory.

Another model is the processed classification framework. Its work is to allow organizations to see their business processes from a cross-industry viewpoint. The American productivity and quality center built it. The model consists of standard member organizations where they facilitate the improvement through benchmarking, regardless of industry, process management, and size. Also, the model has eight business processes which are cross-functional and cross-functional firm in nature. The cross-functional team manages each process through their representatives from marketing, finance, purchasing, logistics research and development and production.

In a smooth distribution of goods and services within the organizations or from different firms, there is a need for supply chain management. The supply chain integrates the business activities, for example; activities from suppliers to consumer in the movement of products. Different companies and corporation’s exchanges information on about market fluctuations and productions capabilities through supply chain management (Ayers, 2017). For instance, relevant information accessed by a supply chain company will help the company to optimize the entire supply chain instead of sub-optimize based on local interest. This will lead to the better plan of maximizing the production and distribution of goods and services. Also, the cost will be reduced, and the final product will be attractive thus increasing the volume of sale. Supply chain management plays the primary role in fulfilling customer’s demands. The demands are met through the use of efficient of resources such as inventory, distribution capacity, and labor. Logistic is also determinants of the smooth supply chain (Ayers, 2017). Most of the activities done in the supply chain involve the product distribution.

In conclusion, supply chain and logistics go with hand in hand. For example, for a product or service to move from supplier to customer, logistic must involve. Also, the successful business requires the supply management to be committed to connecting a supplier and customer correctly.
