Since my childhood, I had a dream of buying a motorcycle to facilitate my mobility. Therefore to make the dream valid, I did all I can to accumulate enough cash to be in a position of to purchase the motorcycle. Now after the painstaking labour and months of denying myself some luxuries, I had enough money to go on with the acquisition.

I made a visit a visit to a reputable to motorcycle dealer in my environs who stocked the brand of the motorbikes I have dreamt of having. On a great day, I met this salesman who was pleasant by all accounts. He wore a bewitching smile and had a way talking that made someone fill comfortable in his presence. The agent took me around the showroom where the motorbikes were well displayed. I exercised my freedom of choice by choosing a motorcycle that was within my means, I did a test drive of the bike, had one on one discussion about the price I am going to be charged, I made the offer to purchase the motorbike at the agreed price and did all the necessary paperwork. But the salesman said that I need not buy the motorcycle on that day, just to be sure that I was comfortable to go ahead with the purchase, I was free to ride the motorbike for the night just to assure myself that all was well.

This smells like a good deal; it will be utter folly not take it. I had my dream night and had my dream ride in my dream motorbike. By the rise of sun the next day, I dashed to the store to seal the deal. Upon reaching the store, my angel of a salesman welcomed warmly but seemed lost in thought. Like every other well-intentioned being, I enquired what the issue was. With lamblike humility, he said that it was not possible to sell the motorbike at the price we had agreed on yesterday. Surprised by the turn events had taken, I enquired why the change. At this moment, the salesman said that, after my departure from the showroom, he had a discussion with the manager of the showroom who had rebuked him for agreeing to a price lower than worth the motorcycle was worth. As per the manager, the motorcycle had a bike stability control system and thus I had to pay $100 more for the extra feature. But despite, the change of events I was at liberty to not to proceed ahead with the purchase.

Feeling obligated to the salesman for the courteous treatment he had accorded me, I went ahead to make the acquisition. After riding my new motorbike for a while, I felt some anger welling up in me. All the courtesies the salesman had accorded me were just a ploy to make purchase the motorcycle at a higher price than what we had agreed with me. Bitter and remorseful for what my gullibility I decided that I had to return to the dealer and request for a refund of the overpaid amount. But after careful deliberation, I saw the wisdom of not making the confrontation. It was my word against his (he the Goliath and I David, I was outnumbered by him in every respect). The use of mind games meant that I had to pay $100 more above the agreed price. Very bitter with the experience, I decided to become a good neighbour and let my friends know about my experience with the dealer. The motorbike I bought had a warranty of two years, and I was jubilant upon the end of that period.

Suppose that one cannot read malice in the behaviour of the salesman man in not being aware of the existence of motorcycle stability system at the time we were negotiating the terms of the motorbike, their conduct during the warranty period unmasked his motives all along. The only repair covered under the guarantee scheme was that of the speedometer. Before the expiry of the period, the speedometer broke down, and I rushed to the dealer make the necessary repairs. On reaching the merchant's shop, I met the same salesman who wore the charming smile like in the first encounter. I explained to him what the matter was and he paid attention to what I was saying never interrupting me when I was talking. After listening to my part of the story, he looked at me sadly and said that making repairs on the speedometer was an ingenious feat requiring a lot of time to undertake. Therefore to ensure that it was well taken care of he advised that I leave them with the motorcycle for that day and come pick it up the next day. With $ 100 experience still fresh in my mind, I swore to myself that I would never fall for the bait again. Just a shadow is faithful to the owner and follows him wherever he goes; I followed the bike mechanic never letting go of him until I saw him enter the manager's office and chatted with me for some time. After the chat, my problem was solved, and I rode away with my dream motorbike vowing never to fall into same bait again.
