Organizational Issues and Solutions

This is a research paper focusing on United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). UNESCO is a special agency of United Nations and its Headquarters are based in Paris, France. The main functions of UNESCO are to promote security and peace among the member states of United Nations through education, scientific activities and cultural practices around the world. UNESCO uses its presence in different countries around the world to ensure justice, respect of rule of law and respect of human rights. Education, social science, natural sciences, communication and cultural activities are the main programs that UNESCO uses to pursue its objectives in 195 member states (Jones, 2018).

UNESCO is facing luck of sufficient financial supply. Being an international organization, UNESCO depends on its member states to finance its activities. Looking at membership of the states to this organization, majority of members are third world countries. Most of third world countries are not able to meet UNESCO financial contribution which leads to over-dependence on the developed countries. UNESCO faces financial challenges because it does not raise adequate funds to finance its activities among member states (Vlassis, 2015).

UNESCO is normally believed to be there to help fight most challenges that third world countries face. Political influence and cultural practices among different countries affect its operations. Developed countries are the main financiers of UNESCO activities and they try to use their financial support to influence the operations of UNESCO in deferent countries depending on their interests. This affects the UNESCO work and operations culture hence leading to incompetence and failure to achieve equality and justice among all member states.

UNESCO leadership is brought together from different member states. Leaders from different countries bring in different working culture and interest into the management of UNESCO. It is a big challenge to make all this leaders from different countries to one direction of leadership and make them have one goal as they manage UNESCO operations. In most cases, each leader drive the motive of his or her country hence affecting the mission of UNESCO (Vlassis, 2016).

It is important for every organization to achieve its mission and vision. This can be achieved by good management and ensuring the leadership of the organization has the same goal. UNESCO draws leaders from different countries and it is very essential to ensure the leaders that are given opportunity to manage UNESCO are ready and able to drive UNESCO agenda without personal interest or influence of their home country. This organization can only achieve its mission by ensuring it employs competent leadership that cannot be compromised to divert from the organizations mission and vision. Another thing that should be checked on to ensure UNESCO operations is smooth and transparent is financing. The leadership of UNESCO should ensure that all countries that finance UNSCO operations are treated equally (Vlassis, 2016).

The leadership of UNESCO should harmonize the member countries that compete for economic and political dominance around the world. This is because this countries finance UNESCO activities and head up controlling their activities so as to make their presence recognized. Good example of these countries is China and United States of America who are competing for world economic share and dominance. United States of America is a giant economic country and China is a giant economic country too and they are both doing all they can to dominate the world economy. They extended their competition in financing world humanitarian organizations like UNESCO and end up controlling their operations so as to make their presence recognized. The leadership of UNESCO should discourage such motives from their financiers. It is better to run its operation with the little funds that are equality contributed by member states and perform their duties transparently than getting donations and other financial support from super rich countries and control their operations.
