Describe the Research Design used in the article. (40-50 words)

The article used a descriptive study design. Researchers described the various challenges faced by the East Asian children when it comes to the prosecution of the criminals. They outline the different challenges that the immigrant kids are likely to face as compared to the nonimmigrants minors in the same condition.

Briefly describe the Study Setting. (40-50 words)

The study focuses on the immigration challenges facing Asian immigrants in Canada. According to the article, refugees from East Asia makes up 14.2% of the total refugees in Canada, thus making it the greatest group. The focus issue is the problems they undergo when trying to seek justice for their children that are sexually abused.

Write a 40-50 word response to the following question:

How is this source relevant to the topic of your paper?

Discrimination and sexual harassment are among the difficulties faced by immigrant people worldwide. The source gives an insight of how being an immigrant catalyzes the situation thus making it hard to prosecute the criminal as compared to the people from the foreign land.

Write a 40-50 word response to the following prompts:

How reliable is the information in this source? How do you know?

The information presented in the Article is reliable for the study. This is because the article was published in the recent past thus making the information quite relevant to the current issues. Also, the article presents a list of other sources that can be easily verified.

Write a 40-50 word response to the following prompt:

Remember, a research question can be answered ONLY with data or information. How does the source support your research question?

The research aims at establishing the causes of custody battle among the immigrant parents in Texas. From the study, it is quite clear that issues like cultural difference and language barrier are key causes of challenges faced by the immigrants.

List the themes of major findings across the study. Were there gaps in services provided? (For example: no counseling was suggested, no classes were suggested, etc.) If so, how will your proposal fill those gaps? If not, how can your proposed project/program complement this social research study? (50-75 words)

Among the themes presented in the article include child abuse, injustice, language barrier, and discrimination on cultural differences. The legal system in Canada discriminates against the immigrants who want to seek justice for their abused children. The delay to punish the offenders makes the refugees’ children vulnerable to the crime. The Canadian government should ensure equality and justice by creating a law that guarantees the refugees same rights and privileges as those born in the country.

Describe the Research Design used in the article. (40-50 words)

The descriptive article discusses how the policies and regulations applied in relation to the detention and release of the immigrants in the United States have impacted the increase of the aliens in the country. It also analyzes the various challenges faced by children once their parents are detained or even deported to their country of origin.

Briefly describe the Study Setting. (40-50 words)

The study focuses on the immigrants in America. The nation has several loopholes that allow the immigrants particularly those from Mexico to find their way in. The arrest and deportation of the illegal immigrants in the country have caused a great rift between the parents and children. The latter is left without people to look after them.

Write a 40-50-word response to the following question:

How is this source relevant to the topic of your paper?

The detention and release and finally the deportation of the adult immigrants are the major factors that cause unaccompanied children. It elaborates on how the detention of the immigrant parents makes it difficult for them to regain the custody of their children. Most of them end up in crimes so as to ensure their survival.

Write a 40-50 word response to the following prompts:

How reliable is the information in this source? How do you know?

The paper has been published by a reliable publisher that is trusted and known for the publication of scholarly publications; Congressional Digest. This means that it has been reviewed and considered significant for academic use. Additionally, it has been included in the school library which provides reliable sources for the University Students to use in their research.

Write a 40-50 word response to the following prompt:

Remember, a research question can be answered ONLY with data or information. How does the source support your research question?

It presents ways in which the detention of the aliens and illegal immigrants have contributes to issues related to children custody. Like deportation, detention denies the immigrant parents the opportunity to care and cater to their children. Detained parents are not in a position to care for their children.

List the themes of major findings across the study. Were there gaps in services provided? (For example: no counseling was suggested, no classes were suggested, etc.) If so, how will your proposal fill those gaps? If not, how can your proposed project/program complement this social research study? (50-75 words)

The most noticeable theme in the article is the detention of the undocumented immigrants which leads to the criminal exposure of the unaccompanied children. To close the gap, the immigrants need to be educated on the need to acquire legal documentation and become the legal immigrants. They will be able to live without the fear of arrest and abandoning their children. Also, they will be able to develop skills and engage in decent jobs to earn a living for their families. Thus, the children will be protected from criminal activities.

Permalink (GCU Library permanent link): http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.905.128&rep=rep1&type=pdf

Describe the Research Design used in the article. (40-50 words)

The article is health-related and uses the systematic review method. The authors obtained secondary information from the already-existing studies using a systematic method. The research which is always evidence-based is synthesized to provide accurate results in the study.

Briefly describe the Study Setting. (40-50 words)

Although the paper was analyzed by a University in Iran, it is based on the various challenges that both the children and adolescent immigrants face worldwide. It is an exploration that analyses the immigration problems from different nations.

Write a 40-50-word response to the following question:

How is this source relevant to the topic of your paper?

The review gives the general information on the issues that face children and the adolescents in different scenarios. It gives the study a background on the challenges that immigration causes children to face. The issues are accelerated by the battles of that child custody.

Write a 50-75-word response to the following prompts:

How reliable is the information in this source? How do you know?

The reliability of the source determines the importance of the information on the study. In this case, the study is a combination of diverse studies that give a related opinion on the same issue. This means that the information accurate and can be trusted.

Write a 40-50 word response to the following prompt:

Remember, a research question can be answered ONLY with data or information. How does the source support your research question?

When parents are faced with difficulties in caring for their children, the kids are likely to develop mentally-related issues. When immigrant parents are put into custody or even deported to their country, children tend to suffer from anxiety and stress which later develops into a mental problem.

List the themes of major findings across the study. Were there gaps in services provided? (For example: no counseling was suggested, no classes were suggested, etc.) If so, how will your proposal fill those gaps? If not, how can your proposed project/program complement this social research study? (50-75 words)

The theme of the review is the mentally-generated challenges that the children and the adolescents tend to develop during and after the migration. As a proposal for the study, it is good for the government to provide rehabilitation services to all the abandoned and unaccompanied immigrant children. The counseling would help to ease their pressure and anxiety as they cope with the challenges in the foreign nation.

Describe the Research Design used in the article. (40-50 words)

The research design of the study is the cross-sectional design. It analyses different researches conducted at different times to determine the changes that might have taken place over a given period. It compares and contrasts the issue of legalization of the immigrants in the United States. A challenge faced by most immigrants in the country.

Briefly describe the Study Setting. (40-50 words)

The information is based on the immigrants in the United States. It scrutinizes the efforts of the nation to put in place the policies that promote the legalization of the immigrants in the country. It as well elaborates on the challenges faced by illegal immigrants in America.

Write a 40-50-word response to the following question:

How is this source relevant to the topic of your paper?

Illegal immigrants are the most vulnerable group of the refugees in America. They are always at risk of being deported back to their countries; thus being separated from their children. The illegal immigrants are the key target when it comes to immigrant challenges. They are exposed to poverty that minimizes their ability to care for their children.

Write a 50-75-word response to the following prompts:

How reliable is the information in this source? How do you know?

The source is a combination of several other sources that have been reviewed and considered effective in terms of the information presented. Also, the fact that it has been included in a university library which contains a reliable database for students guide makes it trustworthy. The fact presented can easily be verified from the resources used by the authors.

Write a 40-50 word response to the following prompt:

Remember, a research question can be answered ONLY with data or information. How does the source support your research question?

The data provide more insight into the fact that immigrants that are not legalized in the United States are one likely to suffer child custody. Due to discrimination, immigrants are given lower chances for decent jobs. The little earning obtained from the low-income jobs is not enough for the families. Children end up engaging in criminal activities so as to help their parents.

List the themes of major findings across the study. Were there gaps in services provided? (For example: no counseling was suggested, no classes were suggested, etc.) If so, how will your proposal fill those gaps? If not, how can your proposed project/program complement this social research study? (50-75 words)

The main issues in the article are the legalization policies that ought to make the illegal immigrants registered. The government should consider adopting a legalization law that allows all the unregistered and registered immigrants to become legal citizens. With the law, it will be easier to regulate the growing number of the refugees in the country.

Overall, good selection of articles as you identified the type of article (e.g., type of research method used), research design study setting/themes, gaps in the literature, reliability and most importantly, how the articles are relevant and helpful to study your social issue.

Part 2: Literature Review:

Next, use the research you have collected to complete the following:

Describe the social issue you have selected for your capstone proposal: (50 words)

The social issue is child custody battles in Texas. The target population of the study is the immigrants found in Texas. Most challenges that relate to child custody among the immigrants are influenced by the unending problems they face in the foreign land. These include lack of well-paying job, inadequate education, deportation, and language barrier.

Next, answer the following: (50-75 words) On what assumptions are you basing your work? Which assumptions are verifiable with research? Which assumptions are more speculative?

Among the assumptions of the research, the proposal is that there will be a decrease in the cases of battling for child custody among the immigrant parents in Texas. This means that they will have a better way of life where they are allowed to integrate with the citizens, learn their way of life, engage in jobs and other activities that allow them to improve their standards of living.

Identify an existing theory that explains your selected social issue. Consider the causes of the selected social issue, correlations, and possible solutions when selecting a theory. For example, “theoretically,” how would you explain this issue to another scholar? (Do you take a behavioral view? Social systems view?) Use chapter four in the textbook to explain the type of theory you have selected (100-150 words):

The study will adopt the " Best Interests of the Child" theory that was developed by the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child. It states that in all child custody cases, whether resolved through negotiation or in a court, the center of the decision should be the child. This implies that all the decisions taken should be favorable in that they give the child the best (Zermatten, 2010). According to the association, factors that lead to increased challenges in child custody include discrimination, deportation, and detention of the caregivers. To ensure the best for the child, the decision makers need to put into considerations the needs of the child, the ability of the parent to care for them, as well as the accessibility of the fundamental needs. Providing employment opportunities is one way of ensuring that parents are able to take care of their children.

Research Gathering: Next, you should be able to use your selected theory to conduct research about the social issue. Consider the following questions as you review the research you gathered: (75-100 words)

Is there an existing strategy, a community program, agency, or grant-funded project already addressing the social issue you selected? If so, describe it. Is it evidence-based? What theory is it based on? If not, briefly describe a possible evidence-based strategy, program, or project that could address your selected social issue.

There is an existing agency that sought to care for the needs of the immigrant families living in Texas, specifically Houston. The Catholic Charities which is a Faith-based organization has the mission to ensure that they eradicate the prevalence of poverty among the immigrants. Besides providing items like food and beverages, they also organize educational programs to educate the refugees on their legal rights while in the foreign land. It ensures the protection of the people against deportation and employment authorization that tend to discriminate against the qualified immigrants.

Literature Review: What, in general, does the literature say about your topic? Review the research you gathered and explain the findings. How have other social researchers approached the social issue you selected? (100-150 words). [Remember, you are looking for a gap in services provided and a project/program solution as to how your proposal will fill that gap in services.]

According to Carr (2009), the issue of battle on child custody among the immigrants continues to increase in the United States because of the ignorance of the judiciary. Often, they are said to ignore the well-fair of the children when deciding cases related to the deportation and detention of the immigrant parents. The children are left in a position to engage in illegal acts as their caretaker continues to serve in the prison or separated from them through deportation. Landale et al. (2011) argue that the continued poverty that limits the ability of the immigrant parents to care for their children is due to discrimination in the United States. Besides facing challenges of the language barrier, they are denied a chance to work or even attend a quality school. They are only allowed to work in minor and low-paying jobs. The government needs to embrace immigrants as part of the citizens and protect them equally with the citizens. If given a chance, they can contribute to the development of the economy in a better way thus eradicating the cases of crimes in the nation.

Theory-Based Question: After you have completed the “Part 1: Gathering Resources” section of this worksheet, compose a theory-based question. Use Table 4.3 in the textbook to help you focus on what type of study your research question is based on. Remember…a research question can be answered ONLY with data or information.

Write your theory-based question here:

How does immigration influence child custody battles in Texas? Or how does the “Child Best Interest” influence child custody battles in Texas?

Next, answer the following prompts about your research question:

Explain how your question derived from theories or existing programs, projects, agencies. (50 words).

The current program by the Catholic church aims at helping the immigrants to get better lives while in the foreign nation. This includes getting legalization to avoid cases of deportation that may separate the parents from their children. Other cases like getting a job to ensure that immigrants earn a living and can prevent their children from engaging in criminal activities.

Is the question specific enough? Can it be answered with evidence? Explain (50 words).

The question is specific in that by referring to the immigrants in Texas, it is possible to confront and ascertain the specific challenges they face. There have been several incidences of deported parents who struggle to regain the custody of their children. In other cases, unaccompanied children have been locked up preventing their parents from having their custody back.

Does it pass the “so what” test? Explain (50 words).

By establishing the relationship between the immigration and the issue of child custody wars, it brings a researcher to a “so what “test position. Investigators are put at a point where they need to think of the best strategies to adapt and find a solution to the problem. It is simply a way of asking oneself what can be done to better the situation.

How is the question relevant to your field of study? (50 words)

The question, which is direct and specific helps to focus on a given target group. Although the social issue can be experienced by different people in Texas despite their immigration status, it is mainly experienced by the immigrants. By focusing on the immigrants, it is possible to understand the challenged they undergo and also suggest the various ways in which the government can solve the same.

Hypothesis: Use the information you have gathered to compose a hypothesis. Your instructor will provide feedback here. Use the feedback to revise your hypothesis.

Child custody battles in Texas are directly related to the challenges faced by the immigrants in the state. Child Best Interest factors are responsible for unfavorable child custody case outcomes for immigrants in Texas.

Conceptualize the social issue- According to the textbook, in order to ensure your theory is based on a solid foundation of assumptions, concepts, and interrelated propositions, it helps to identify the core concepts (“mental images,” “ideas,” or “understanding”).

Use the Table 4.4 located in the textbook to assist you in identifying concepts in your theory.

Explain (50-75 words) the concepts found in your theory about your selected social problem.

The immigrants in Texas have a higher chance of facing a child custody battle. More adult and children immigration continue to be detained and others being deported. As a result, they are separated from the rest of the family. US courts have failed to incorporate the wellbeing of the immigrant children on judicial procedures.

Explain (50-75 words) the importance of evaluating your theory for central concepts.

A theory helps a researcher to develop a concrete idea and knowledge of the relationship between the dependent and the independent variables. He/she is able to have a rough idea of the likely results of the study. Also, the evaluation helps one to establish a research gap that he/she would like to fill.

In general (100-200 words), how would you propose to conduct this research study so that it answers your research questions? What kind of existing data will you gather (specify type, such as surveys, observations, interviews…or some combination of these types) to support your theory?

The study will adopt a descriptive research design that aims at answering the “WH” questions. The participants will be in a position to give a description of the challenges they face as immigrants; as well as the manner in which they think that their immigrant status influences child custody battles in Texas. Among the methods of data collections to be used include surveys where the participants will be required to answer particular questions in relation to the topic. In addition, the observation method will be used to identify the various challenges accompanied by interviews. Mainly, the target population for the study will be the immigrant people living in Houston, Texas
