Summary

The topic of qualitative study by Derevensky, Shek, & Merrick, (2011) is why gambling becomes addicts some people while it does not become an addiction to others. The main aim of the study was to find the main reasons as to why some people gamble and are not addicted to gambling while others gamble and are addicted. This study does not have a theoretical basis. Several studies which have been carried out before identified a few cases of addiction to gambling. Internet-based research, as well as interviews and surveys, were carried out to be able to come up with detailed information to be able to come up with full details regarding the causes of addiction to gambling.

Analysis

Our research question is structured correctly because it addresses a specific problem which is being faced by most of the people today. Due to the increase in the gambling sites or platforms, addiction to gambling has become a significant problem. Research which was carried sometimes back showed that people are addicted to gaming due to the following reasons. The first reason as to why most people are addicted to gambling is because most of the people who take part in gambling do not take time to analyze their winning or loses, failure to do so encourages them to keep gambling, and with time they become addicted to gambling. The second reason as to why some people are easily addicted to gambling, while others are not is because most of the people who take part in gambling are seeking financial stability. Some people who partake in gambling are interested in solving their financial problems. They forget that gambling is cannot solve financial problems, instead it results to creation of more financial problems if you are not in a position of effectively analyzing your gambling history to be able to know that you are making wins or loses (ABC International, Films for the Humanities & Sciences (Firm), & Films Media Group, 2008). It is essential to note that the sample size used was not so big but the number of participants as well as the online resources used was enough for a qualitative study. The study had some limitations as well, this is because most of the people who were interviewed were not willing to provide information and also most of them argued that it is not easy to become an addict of gambling while it is well known that most of the people who gamble are addicts (Derevensky, Shek, & Merrick, 2011).

Application

Wilcox, (2015) alludes that this study addresses an essential topic because it has focused on one of the problems which are affecting many people in society. As discussed in this study there are several causes of addiction to gambling. Hence, this paper fills the gap in the literature because its main aim is to find out the main reason as to why some people are addicted to gambling while others are not easily addicted. Addiction to gambling is one of the problems which affects most the people today and hence there is a need to efficiently analyze the causes of addiction to gambling (Wilcox, 2015).

Several claims can be made that this study informs future researches on the main causes of addiction to gambling by providing the causes of addiction to gambling. As mentioned in this paper the cause of addiction to gambling comprise of seeking to sort financial problems, depression, achieving early big wins at the initial steps of gambling and some biological factors also play a major role in addiction to gambling. In conclusion, addiction to gambling is one of the major problems which is being faced by most of the young people today and hence it is essential to find out the major causes of addiction to gambling and how those who are addicted to gambling can be helped to solve these problems.
