SELF REFLECTION EXERCISE #3

STUDENT NAME: TAGIE POLO

SUBMITTED TO: Dileeni Weerasinghe

Objectives

  • Analyze the functions of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and its relevance to job performance, meaningful connections, and career planning.

  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of MBTI.

Background

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test used to profile individual personality types. First developed in the 1940s by Isabel Myers and Katharine Briggs, the test has been adapted by several scholars over the past several decades. Though at times generating some controversies over its relevancy, it continues to be a tool used by organizations to better understand how individuals’ personalities within their current or potential employees match the identified requirements for various roles.

Instructions

  1. Conduct some research on the MBTI and the 16 possible personality types; make note of both your score and key findings. You do not have to submit the completed test as part of your report, but should incorporate your score and reflection on key findings in your critical analysis.

    1. Complete the 72 question quiz adapted from the full MBTI:  Human Metrics. (n.d.). Jung typology test. Human Metrics. Retrieved from  http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

  2. Find your personality type and conduct some research on what that personality type says about you.

  3. Write a research paper in which you answer the following:

    1. Did any of the dimensions on your personality type surprise you? i.e., Were you surprised to learn you were an introvert when you thought you were an extrovert?

    2. Do you more closely align with any of the 4 dimensions on the scale? Why?

    3. Do you believe the MBTI is a useful tool for individuals to use? Why or why not?

    4. Do you believe the MBTI is a useful tool for organizations to use? Why or why not?

Guidelines

  • Your paper should be a maximum of 3 pages double-spaced in 12-point font (not including cover page and references). For papers longer than 3 pages, the additional pages will not be considered in grading.

  • Your paper should have a well-defined introduction, body, and conclusion.

  • Although you are writing a research paper, you are encouraged to include some personal or first person accounts in this exercise.

  • Your paper must follow APA style format.

  • Your paper must include a minimum of 2 external academic resources.
