Guidelines for the Initial Team Planning Meeting Report

  1. The name of the organization you’re consulting for, and their contact info (i.e. physical address or website). Note that this may be a for-profit, not-for-profit, or government agency. It may not be a student club or Greek organization.

  2. A description of what the organization has been doing well. This should be written up in no more than two paragraphs.

  3. The problem or issue your team is attempting to solve. This should be written up in no more than one page and should be based on some facet of OB, even if we haven’t covered it in class yet. You should describe what the problem is, how you know it exists, and what are the upsides – that is why is it important to solve this problem?

Sample issues might be things like:

- How to improve a team's creativity

- How to improve organizational communications to employees

- How to motivate employees

- How to train new leaders/improve leadership in current management

- How to increase volunteerism in employees

And so forth. Please note that you shouldn't merely decide on a problem to solve arbitrarily. Your team should choose the problem to fix by either (a) observing it within the organization, and/or (b) being told about it by one of your organizational contacts. Your description of the problem should include information on how you became aware of it.

  1. The names and email addresses of at least two employees you have interviewed. You should conduct detailed (at least 20 minutes) interviews with at least two employees of the organization. You may also gather information from other sources, such as direct observation, additional employees, customers, partners, vendors, or even investors (if any of those groups are appropriate), but you must interview at least two employees about the problem you are trying to solve. They may or may not be the sources who introduce you to the problem.

  • Total length should range between 2-3 pages.

  • Times New Roman, double-spaced, normal margin (1”X1”X1”)

Guidelines for the Final Team Report

  1. Concrete overviews of the organization and the industry (1-2 pages will be sufficient) (10% of the grade)

  1. Detailed description of the organization’s strength (i.e., what are they doing really well compared to their competitors in terms of OB related strategy?) (2-3 pages will be sufficient) (25% of the grade)

  2. Detailed description of each recommendation, discussed in the context of the problem at hand (35% of the grade)

  1. Provide specific, detailed rationale for why each recommendation should address a particular OB problem (you should rely primarily on theories discussed in class/textbook unless you found a good theory in the field of OB) (30% of the grade)

  • You can compare your recommendations to the company’s current OB practices to stress why your recommendation will be effective

  • (3) + (4) can range from 5 to 10 pages.

  • Total paper should be AT LEAST 10 pages and should not exceed 15 pages.

  • Times New Roman, double-spaced, normal margin (1”X1”X1”)
