Corrective action is the process of communicating with employees with the aim of encouraging them to improve their performance after methods such as coaching and performance appraisal have been unsuccessful. It mainly involves gathering all the necessary facts regarding an employee’s misconduct then coming up with solutions (Kelly, 2013). One of the solutions can be in form of discussion with the employee regarding the performance that is expected from them, simple solutions for the problem, and deadlines set for a change to be seen. It also involves a clear identification of actions that ought to be taken to correct the poor performance. As a manager, one has to also carry out consistent monitoring to check and give feedback regarding an employee’s progress.

The correction plan for the employee who has been late ten times in one month would involve the following steps. One, I would first gather all the facts regarding this behavior so as to know the root causes of this behavior and its impacts on the employee’s performance. Secondly, after finding out the main reasons for the behavior, I then give out clear headlines of the expected conduct when it comes to lateness and a warning that if he/she gets late more than five times the coming month, he/she will have to be deployed (Muchemu, 2017). If I observe positive changes in the next one month, I give the employee positive feedback and encourage them to continue with the same. However, if they proceed with the same pattern, I will have no other choice but to implement the warnings given which right include probations, reduced salaries, or being deployed.

I believe that an employee can become empowered to improve after corrective action is implemented. This is because an employee might not have the knowledge of their misconduct until they are informed that the behavior is wrong. Having this knowledge after a discipline discussion tends to encourage individuals to engage in positive behavior and avoid conducts that may increase their likelihood of losing their jobs.
