The Clayton Technology Consulting company is a new startup that is the brain child of LaDerick Clayton a graduate of Strayer University and ex DoD Contractor. The company is a B2B I.T. consulting company that helps other companies lower their I.T. cost while increasing efficiency. Their moto is “Doing more with less”. The founder has envisioned helping companies get rid of most of their legacy I.T. systems and move them to AWS or Google Cloud based Infrastructure as a Service model.

The company will send their consultants to a potential client’s site and do a survey. This will allow them to find out current capabilities and cost. Once that is done they consultants will draw up a detailed plan on what it is costing now and how they could say money with the suggested changes. This can be both hardware infrastructure changes as well as software and process changes. As an added option, a security check will be done as well as a data risk evaluation.

Currently there is no after sales support for clients after the work has been done, but as the company grows we plan to offer off primacy call center support. This will be a separate contract and will not be included in the initial deal. The plan for this support center will be to use lower cost high skilled workers from the Philippines. Taking the lessons learned from big companies like Dell in the early 2000’s who moved most of their call centers to India and received harsh backlash, because of language and culture differences. We will use the Philippines because 76% of them understand English and 61% can write in English. (Calimag, 2008) The company will also pay a higher wage than a typical white color worker and even more if they have technical experience. Others will be trained both on the technical skills and the cultural skills needed to make the clients comfortable choosing our service.

IN-HOUSE TECHNICAL NEEDS

For our in-house technical needs we will put our own money where our mouth is. This means we too will use Infrastructure as a Service through AWS. Our plan is for our current and future employees to use the BYOD model. (McCann, 2016) Allowing the user to bring their own device gives them the comfort of using a device they like with the tools they choose to install. For our internal network needs we will wire the entire office with CAT6 cabling and Gigabit switches on each floor. The entire office will also have secure Cisco Wireless routers in common and conference rooms. There will not be any onsite servers only cloud bases storage and services.

AWS SERVICES NEEDED:

  • 2 VPC (internal network) (external network) https://aws.amazon.com/vpc/

  • AWS RDS (relational database) https://aws.amazon.com/rds/

  • S3 Storage (storage) https://aws.amazon.com/s3/

  • Desktop Virtualization https://aws.amazon.com/workspaces

  • Security Hub and WAF & Shield (security) https://aws.amazon.com/security-hub/

  • Route 53 (website hosting) https://aws.amazon.com/route53/

  • Kinesis (data analytics) https://aws.amazon.com/retail/data-analytics/

  • Cloud 9 (web design) https://aws.amazon.com/cloud9/

Designing our office from the ground floor like this will give us the ease of only paying for what we need and allowing us to scale up as we grow and bring in new customers and well as new staff. This also allows the consultants to know the advantages and limitations of the environments they are selling to costumers.
