Medical treatment should be administered in a well-set condition where the patient is comfortable and the treatment should be able to meet their needs fully. When these conditions are met patients are able to recover from their conditions and regain at the shortest time possible. The paper describes the experience of administering two alcohol screening tools that include the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test and Michigan Alcohol Screening Test.

A.) Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test

The Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) consists of 10 characters meant for screening, and was invented by the World Health Organization. Its main role is to determine alcohol usage rate, individual’s habit of taking alcohol together with complications related to alcohol. A clinical-administered version and an individual -report is designed. Patients are advised to give responses to AUDIT questions based on intake of the drinks that contains 14 grams of pure alcohol. From the analysis of the answers given a score of 8 and above is regarded as a dangerous alcohol consumption rate. The use of AUDIT is legalized to all people regardless of gender and ethnicity and fits well in individualism care establishment. Below is an experience of my interview between me and my student friend showing my experience in administering AUDIT (Lundin, Hallgren, Balliu & Forsell, 2015).

I collected a lot of data concerning alcohol drinking from my friends and family members. Most of my data was collected through interviewing and observation. The questions were personal and aim to get data at individual level. Most of them were aware of the alcoholic beverages stimulating their bodies for example, vodka and wine and, they used them in several occasions. Also, most of them took alcohol two three times per month since many of them were still schooling. They usually take one or two varieties of alcoholic drinks. However, they feared to take six varieties in one occasion since they were not used to alcoholic drinks so much. I wanted to know if they have ever made an attempt to stop drinking starting from this year, and it came to my attention that they have never made that attempt. I also realized that despite this, they usually felt guilty of their decision of taking alcohol. They usually don’t know the incidences that happened at night while drunk. Moreover, they had some of their friends injured recently after drinking. Their relatives questioned them about their drinking habit. They responded by promising to stop the drinking alcohol claiming it has impacted their lives negatively.

B.) Michigan Alcohol Screening Test

It was formulated in the year 1971 and is regarded as one of the most accurate and oldest screening tools able to recognize dependently on alcohol takers to almost 98 percent correctness (Buddy, 2018). The questions are designed to address the patient's self-appraisal of social, recreational and family issues related to excessive drinking. The test addresses alcohol complications in a large target population. The use of MAST scoring system finds it crucial to address when five points and above is attained (Minnich, Erford, Bardhoshi, & Atalay, 2018). Below is my interview between me and students showing my experience in administering Michigan Alcohol screening test.

I started by enquiring if they like their drinking habit, and they agreed. Most of them claimed to be habitual drinkers and their parents worry a lot about their behaviors. However, they cannot manage to stop drinking after taking drinks in two occasions consecutively. They are also guilty about their drinking habits despite their friends considering them as normal drinkers since they do their habit secretly. They solemnly feel that it is not possible to stop drinking as they wish since they have never attended forums or meetings to help them curb alcoholism. Most of them have been drag in to fighting after being drunk that has even cause conflict with their parents. This made their parents to seek help to address their issue from several people. Many of them have ended their relationship with their friends because of their behavior especially when at school. This has made many to neglect them because of their habit. They usually drink four times a week before noon time that has caused them to be diagnosed with diseases such as liver cirrhosis from this year. More over students have encountered body changes such as body shaking and heard voices after drinking heavily. The students have also been arrested in several occasions. This body changes made them to seek assistance from somebody else to be guided and further actions taken. Their parents took them to recommended people to advise them.

To conclude the Michigan Alcohol Screening Test is more accurate as compared to The Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) although both of the aim to address the patient’s complications at the individual level in a set environment convenient for getting accurate data.
