1 1 Research Poster. 25% The poster is weighted at 25% of your course mark. Choose a topic from the list provided by your teacher and start planning your project that would be presented in the poster. You can work in groups or do individual p roject but please NOTE THAT E ACH STUDENT SHOULD SUBMIT a copy of the POSTER . In a group, EACH STUDENT SUBMITS the SAME COPY on BBLEARN. You each will be assessed on how carefully you have followed the given instructions:  Poster organization  Evaluation of poster element s  Evidence on experiment /data collection Creating a poster  Choose the correct software PowerPoint, MS Word, PowerPoint is the most common ly used software and there are many free templates available on the Internet. We will also provide you with templates .  Orientation: portrait or landscape – your choice.  Format: Soft copy – JPG/DOCX/PPTX formats are all accepted if you have a MacBook please save your Keynote or Pages files as JPG or EXPORT TO PPT or DOC. Otherwise your teacher may not be able to open your work.  Submit just the soft copy of your poster on BBLearn, no need to print it out 2 2 W hat is a Scientific Poster ? It is a large representative poster that communicates research outcomes to an audience. The poster should be well organized and concise enough for the viewer to read it in less than 15 -20 minutes. Parts of a Poster 1. Title 2. Name of group members, IDs , CRN number 3. Abstract • In this part you should summarize the entire research project in 4-5 sentences. You need to mention your research question, outline methods and main conclusions. 4. Introduction . This is based on the Research Question and Justification of Research/Lit Review essay , which you submitted during the in -class assessment. You can use teacher comments to edit it. In a group you can comb ine different versions together , and add one more reference. • the r esearch question • three b ackground research references (3 in -text citations) 5. Methods • how you conducted the research • what materials you used • who you contacted/surveyed etc. 6. Results • Experiment or survey results • Graphs presenting data 7. Discussion /Conclusions . • In discussion, you first inter -compare results (in case if this is a group project with individual data collection) and then you compare this with the literature sources , where possible. Not all projects will have discussion. Your teacher will advise you accordingly. • In Conclusions, you summarize main findings of your study. 8. References : minimum of 3 reliable references in APA format . Use the reference s, which you submitted for the in -class essay and add one more. How to start: Sequence • When creating a poster think of it as a story. • Every story needs a logical sequence. • Try writing in the columns from left to right and up to down. 3 3 Some more pieces of advice: • Leave space around your text • Use plain fonts • Be consistent in text size, colo ur and type in the whole poster. • Whenever possible, use bullet points rather than blocks of sentences. • Keep your posters visual (Images say more than words). • No more than 2 or 3 colours in your poster. • Use high -resolution pictures that can be seen at a fair distance. • Don’t make your poster too long with small letters. (“Less is more”)
