QSO 360 Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric Overview: Apply the first step of the DMAIC cycle to your selected problem or process, and document your results. Ensure your problem statement addresses the following: states the problem, when it was observe d, how long it has been occurring, and the business impact of not resolving it. In addition, you must complete a Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer (SIPOC) table and include your Voice of the Customer requirements translated to a measurable metric. Prompt: Complete the Define Tollgate PowerPoint slides using your text and the following instructions: Slide One Create a name for your project and provide your name. Slide Two Tollgate Description Slide Three: Project Charter  Problem Statement : Ensu re you state as quantitatively as possible what the problem is, how long it has been occurring, and what the customer expectations are.    Business Justification : Why is it important to improve this process?   Process Scope : What are the beginning and end step s of the process that the project is focusing on?    Out of Scope : What areas are not being addressed in this project? For example, “All incoming calls on the 1 -800 xxx xxxx number are in scope; anything else is out of scope.”    Project Sponsor and Team : List the manager who is driving this project and members of the project.    High -Level Schedule : The dates you expect the project phases to be completed. A typical DMAIC project takes 3 weeks for Define, 8 –10 weeks for Measure (due to the requirement to collect new data), 3 weeks for Analyze, 3 weeks for Improve, and 4 –6 weeks for Control. For this exercise, use the due dates provided in the module.  Slide Four: SIPOC (Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer) 1. Who is the customer of the process (internal or ext ernal)? 2. What does the process provide the customer? Specifically, what output is provided (service or product)? 3. What are the five or six high -level steps of the process? 4. What are the inputs to the process? What material or information is needed to start th e process? 5. Who provides the inputs to the process? Slide Five Part 1 – Generic Requirements Based on your understanding, what are the key requirements of the process for both customer and business? For example:  Deliver the output of the process on tim e (customer).   Deliver the output free of defects (customer).    Maintain expenses within budget guidelines (business).  Part 2 – Translation to Measurements and Goals Next, translate each to specific metrics with a target or goal. For example:  Deliver the o utput of the process on time translates to: Overall cycle time from order to delivery with a goal of two days.    Deliver the output free of defects translates to: Check output against a specific list of defects. (If it is an invoice, veri fy correct address, correct items, correct price.)    Maintain expenses within budget guidelines translates to: Perform tasks within a $100 cost per transaction.  Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: A. Describe the problem to be solved or process to be improved and why it is appropriate for the DMAIC model. Why is it important to you personally or professionally to improve the situation? What is at stake if the situation goes unresolved? Use specific, compelling details that illustrate the symptoms an d extent of the problem or process in need of improvement. B. Based on your description of the problem, clearly define the goals of your improvement project. Make sure that your goal statements reflect the principles of the DMAIC methodology. C. Finally, estab lish the constraints of the project. Be sure to discuss all relevant issues related to scope, resources, and timelines. If applicable, consider who the members of the project team would be and their roles. Illustrate your response with specific examples.
