Abstract

The experience of working in the field to collect important data that helps in giving one the go ahead in a research study is essential. Such an experience cannot be made effective unless the general considerations of data collection methodologies are made. It is an important in any study to analyze and make selections of the best field work methodologies that favor data collection, observation and final process of correlating the collected data and analyzing it to find the best work opportunities. I observed that classroom is the basic start point for any important admissions in the field observation. All the entities of a classroom environment that affect the field observation process are essential in ensuring that the best approaches are put into the implementation plan of the any field study. The crucial factors such as the type of students involved, one perspectives and primary ideologies, concepts and other natural elements are essential in ensuring that clarity of the goals exist in the process.

For my observations I spent time at a public school setting, Live Oak Elementary School in Albany. I enjoyed the time I spent here getting to know some of the students and see how their teachers went about teaching them. Live Oak Elementary School is a kindergarten to fifth grade school, with classes rotating in grades three thru five, and only one class per grade with kindergarten thru second. The teacher that I observed was Victoria Griffin in her self-contained class multiple grade levels k-5, with a population of 2 female students and 8 male students having a total of 10 students. Some having small disabilities such as ADHD and dyslexia. For the time i was there the subject I observed with the class was ELA (English and language arts), and at the time of my observations the class was reading their story for the week( how the beetle got her colors), they were also learning spelling and vocabulary words, and working on their writing skills..

Learning environment

My initial view of the classroom environment was defined by my perspectives and expectations of a classroom of the current era. The reality of the classroom was that of moderate technological level with all the basic requirements of a classroom setting. I observed the different kinds of layouts that existed in the learning environment. These layout were essentially for incorporating the different dimensions of teaching and classroom presentations. The layouts take a fill of the gap that exist due to the fact that many classrooms are used for different subject presentations which would require different elements. Technological essentials such as projectors, smart boards, computers and camera systems are present in order to take note of the different dimensions of the work being done. The teacher-student interaction is very outright in presenting a hierarchy that exists in the environment. Responsibilities are shared in ensuring that different elements of a world of sensibility is considered as essential and paramount in clearing all possible doubts of a student and teacher.

The primary impact that is related to the learning environment is the contribution that such an environment adds in the overall learning process of a student. My personal view and thoughts are connected to the experience that I got in understanding all the entities of such an environment and relating to them optimally as clear as required in the whole field work. In a classroom there are many disparities that arise in relation to the individual student and their perception of their environment. Due to the different personalities of students in the learning environment, the teachers has to consider many factors that are elementary in forming an integrated environment that accommodates all the different types of people. Since multiculturalism is an important factor in the classroom environment, there many factors that are subjective in the classroom in order to allow the diversity to take course.

Classroom management

Every society requires a code of ethics or rules and regulations that help in protecting people’s boundaries in the classroom. These boundaries are legally or ethical founded and help in maintaining a peaceful and harmonious learning environment. While rules such as ethical boundaries and ethos are not written codes, the classroom environment contains such codes that are obviously followed. However, other rules are written in the right order and this gives the students and all people in the classroom domain an awareness of such regulations and hence they are supposed to follow them. The administrative strategies that involve linking the management with the classroom environment was done by a representative of the class. The presence of a member of the class to air out the different needs and grievances of the students was considered a fundamental need in the management policies.

Observance of authority in the classroom environment is considered very crucial in maintaining order of the class environment. The students are engaged with the significance of having many issues resolved with the classroom without having to bring them out to the management. Teachers have the authority of defining their rules in relation to having clarity of what need to be done in ordering the class environment and ensuring that what should be delivered is done. Being a master of the house is the golden rule that a class teacher has to hold in order to engage the students and monitor their behavior in the classroom environment.

Educational activities

According to my understanding of the important factors in the classroom, the essential steps to taken by the instructor to provide an enabling environment of learning is very key. The instructional activities in the classroom were relevant and very key in regard to the classroom needs of the students. The presentation of the instructors was clear and meeting the needs of the objectives as defined in the classroom curriculum. The essential consideration in the whole work is the arising need to ensure that all objectives of classroom sessions are met without failure. The instructors were usually leveled to the standards of the classroom environment with keen observant to every key detail outlined. This practices ensures that instructors are always in the frontline in ensuring that the work of the students stretches to the required standards level.

The students were moderately actively and attentive in the classroom lessons, answering questions and asking questions to the instructor. The level of response from the instructor was also ensuring that there are adequate and quality engagement in the class. However, the level of student engagement was considerably low and sometimes quite high depending on the interaction levels of the apparent instructor in control. Essentially the importance of having limited resources to work with is challenging on the side of the instructor. Several instructors proved to be very annoyed and improvised different learning methodologies that incorporated key elements of consideration in the execution of lesson presentation. The teachers and instructors also gave relevant assessments. Their strategies were very key and appropriate in regard to the topics covered, lesson objectives and the overall work done by the class. The teachers were very concerned with performance and evaluation policies to ensure that they are followed to the end.

Personal Reflections

In any classroom environment, there exists different factors that either have positive or negative influence to the work of an instructor or student. I observed different loopholes in the classroom environment whose cause I would attribute to lack of focus and direct engagement with the goals and objectives of a lesson plan that is fundamental in giving people the right direction as regards to the work that is appropriate in the classroom. There many opportunities of improvement because instructors have a continuous chance to enrich their minds and be more effective in dispensing knowledge to the students. On the other hand, the students continuously get enlightened by new sources of knowledge hence giving them a chance to participate more effectively in the classroom. The interaction of the teacher’s theories and philosophical presentation with the reality of the classroom experience requires the students to have open minds and broad perspectives. These are important factors that require an open mind and a clear view of what need to be done by those involved in the classroom environment. Awareness of one’s role and responsibility makes it easy to venture into understanding different perspectives people and how to handle each in response to one’s position.

Communication, class interaction, levels of attention and concentration from students as well as presentation of quality materials are places that need to be improved. The general sense that need to be applied across all the parts of the classroom environment is that all positions held should be fixed and done well connection to work. The importance of having clarity of roles and responsibility is ensuring accountability all around.

In the philosophical approaches of education and my personal experience, I think there clear boundaries that show the existing disparities in the work that is done by many people who pursue education. Education is a continuous experience whose reality can only be related to the facts that are experiential in nature other than theoretical. This is because there are many things I learnt that do not have any single relation with my own life hence they would seem very important in bringing true sense of clarity and truth in regard to many theoretical truths. This may be different from what is already experimental by an individual. Such experiences in the classroom environment trigger the need to incorporate technical education in the theoretical curriculum. Practical experiences for any student are essential in equipping a learning environment with the capacity to endure and overcome.

The need for improvement and changes in the ways learning takes place has been subject to discussion especially because of the many existing needs of students. Technology has increased the extent to which a class environment interacts with an individual student. The increasing number of factors influencing student’s attention to the instructor is issue that needs to be considered. In the broad spectrum, the many challenges that are arising from the dynamics of technology and the emerging issues need to be countered with the other technological strategies that hold the same measure.
