Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) Systems Concept Map

The main focus of computerized provider order entries are specifically centered on work-flow considerations (McGonigle, 2012).

At my place of work, a nurse must verbally take an order from a provider on the telephone, or in person. Once an order has been received, the nurse must read back the orders to the provider to seek verification and clarifications. Once the orders have been clarifies, the nurse enters the orders into the CPOE, where they can then be found under the patients MAR.

Through the use of information technology there has been a significant improvement in both the quality and safety of care being provided. However, there is still need for improvement, which can only be achieved in users report any problems, rather than settling and creating any sort of workarounds (McGongile, 2012).

At my place of work, we do not have secretaries entering in orders, scheduling procedures, and/or entering lab orders. Here, the nurses are responsible for putting in lab orders through either Quest Diagnostics, or LabCorp. Along with, scheduling any other procedures which may be ordered by a provider.

The CPOE system we use is called KIPU.
