Cultural Competence and Law Enforcement

*“Cultural and diversity awareness must include an understanding of cultural issues not only related to race, religion, gender, and age, but also related to physical or mental disabilities and sexual orientation.”

Research the local and national news media and find one of the latest incidents related to one or more of the cultural areas mentioned above. What were the issues? Did the police not act in an appropriate manner? What was the nature of the crime, violence? Reference more than one source (e.g., to support your claim or to cite additional information).

SLP Assignment Expectations

Answer the assignment questions directly.

Stay focused on the precise assignment questions. Do not go off on tangents or devote a lot of space to summarizing general background materials.

Use reliable and credible sources as your references. Articles published in established newspapers or business journals/magazines are preferred. If you use the internet to find articles, make sure the sources are credible.

For Modules 1 through 4, see the Student Guide to Writing a High-Quality Academic Paper, including pages 13-14 on in-text citations. Another resource is the “Writing Style Guide”, which is found under “My Resources” in the TLC portal.
