Project Summary

Home healthcare training is a program that is meant for aspiring professionals in the field of home healthcare. It is a program which is meant to be an add-on to their qualification of the Certified Nursing Assistant. The main goal for this exercise is not only to necessarily intensify the skill of the healthcare employees, but also to assist them in recognizing and reporting problems that could affect the well-being of everyone who needs healthcare. In the healthcare industry, the highest number of healthcare providers who work in healthcare institutions. In some occasions, it may be difficult to find home healthcare aides, showing that there is a need to train more healthcare professionals to join the team. This project, therefore, is meant to increase the number of healthcare providers who work as home health aides.

Goals and Objectives

The goals of home healthcare training include:

  • Helping individuals to have an improved function and be independent

  • Supporting the best well-being level of a customer

  • Help patients to avoid being hospitalized for a long-term

Home healthcare independence enables individuals to have improved function since the services are given include occupational, physical as well as speech-language therapy. It is the best method to promote the optimum level of well-being of a client, especially in situations where the patient cannot move from home to hospital if several medical attention services are required. This is an approach that is best for elderly people and those who are disabled (Mostaghel, 2016). They may experience illnesses where they are expected to seek medical services approximately four times a week. The type of services to be offered depends on the nature of the illness. If they should visit a healthcare facility more often, for such people, it is best that the healthcare professional attends to them at home due to their physical situation. The elderly and the disabled are most of the time not taken into close consideration in the society, and it is the reason for having fewer home healthcare aides (Mostaghel, 2016). Increasing the number of healthcare aides puts in mind such people in the society, giving them a sense of belonging. Home healthcare aides are the best in situations where physicians have referred patients to home healthcare services. In other situations, the services are requested by the patients or the family members of the patients (Fikar & Hirsch, 2017).

There are other factors that may result in the need for home healthcare services. These factors have to be taken into close consideration, to ensure that all people in society get to enjoy medical services from home if they are not able to get to a healthcare facility. One of these factors is illnesses that require the patient, not to be moved around for instance poisoning, connective tissue, and musculoskeletal disease, circulatory disease, and heart disease. Another factor contributing to the need for these services is low-income (Hsu, Hwang, Brossoie & Roberto, 2017). Individuals who are in low-paying jobs may choose to have home healthcare services to avoid using more money to move around from one healthcare facility to another. Putting this method of healthcare services provision in place is the best way to make sure that individuals who may not reach health care facilities as a result of different reasons are still attended to.

The goals of home healthcare training include:

  • Provision of sufficient training and health care services to make certain that the caregivers satisfactorily attend to the needs of patients.

  • Provision of educational opportunities within the healthcare system especially for employees who have on-going participation in professional healthcare facilities.

Home healthcare training is meant to make sure that the caregivers involved know when and how to attend to the patients in an effective manner. Different health matters call for different medical services. This training ensures that the caregivers are well-equipped to handle the various situations and save lives. This training program is meant to involve healthcare professionals who have degrees or diplomas in medicine, together with those who do not have these certifications. For the individuals who do not have certifications, it is a platform to start a new journey in caregiving. However, it is an add-on for individuals who already have certifications and are actively participating in healthcare organizations.

Customers and Stakeholders

The main clients of this project are patients who cannot make it seek medical services in healthcare facilities, as a result of various reasons. These are the clients who require caregivers to attend to them at home. They include the elderly, the disabled, and patients who have been instructed by pharmacists to seek home medical services. The major stakeholders for this project, have been identified through their virtue of leadership in facilities where they represent caregivers and patients or through the experiences they have as policymakers. An interview was undertaken before selecting them as the stakeholders of the project. They were interviewed regarding their priorities in addressing the needs of their clients in the current and the future. They were also interviewed regarding their roles and relevance in home healthcare services. After the interview, a good number of individuals were selected, including current and former caregivers and policymakers in different healthcare centers and individuals advocating for Medicare beneficiaries.

Project Deliverables

Everyone chosen to be part of the project has an important role to play. The team members include the training officers and supervisors. The training officers are expected to make sure that they have a plan to finish all training topics in the scheduled four weeks. They are also expected to ensure that they complete all daily tasks on time to avoid wasting time. The supervisors, on the other hand, are supposed to make sure all daily activities are started and completed on time without fail to make sure within the four weeks all topics are covered.

The project involves moving from one region to another and training home caregivers in a few regions. In this case, the training part of the program is expected to cover approximately six months, to make sure the number of targeted home caregivers is reached in each region. There are 24 weeks the half section of the year and each training process is scheduled to take four weeks. In this case, the total number of regions scheduled for training is six regions. The entire project is scheduled to take 12 months in which the first six months before the training begins are scheduled for preparations. The preparation as shown in the table above is divided into two parts scheduled to take at least three months each. The first three months of the year are scheduled for strategizing. Under this main operation are activities which include: identifying the main team members that will be available throughout the project, specifying the requirements as well as the features. Building the application prototype and procuring equipment and designing strategy for the logistics. The second part is the remaining three months before the training begins. These three months are scheduled for refinement. During this time, there will be an application of the training project coordinator and the supervisors and finalizing the application and materials for training. The training section begins where each of the six regions takes up four weeks. After the training process is completed, data collection and analysis is done to determine the best candidates to be appointed as home caregivers. The main resources required to make this project a success, are funds and human resources.

Conclusion

Home healthcare training is an important project that helps in increasing the number of home healthcare aides. Having more healthcare professionals to provide home medical care at home ensures that there is a good number for everyone who needs medical attention given at home. Home healthcare professionals do not necessarily need to have a college degree or a high school diploma because as mentioned earlier, it is not only about improving healthcare skills. In this case, they should not have the specific skills required, but they are trained to know when and how to give reports on medical issues concerning everyone who needs attention.
