There is a common platitude about teamwork says, “There is no I in TEAM”. In my opinion, this statement is very true. As we learned, a team is a unit of interdependent individuals with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose and set of performance goals and to common expectations for which they hold themselves accountable. The people who are in the same team have shared mission, common objectives, sharing information, insights, and perspectives, making decisions that support each individual to do his/her own job, and reinforcing each other’s efforts. As mentioned, the expression of the individual will be less and less, meanwhile, the expression of the team will be more and more. Once all the individuals work together in a team, the more efforts they will attribute. For example, when we prepare the project as a team, the aim of each one in the team is to finish the team project perfectly. This needs all the team members to give up their own personal benefit and temper for a while. All the team members need to finish their tasks first, and then try their best to help others who have difficult to finish the work. If every team member care about who contributes more and who contributes less, the whole team will be lose. The reason is that the people inside the team are the key elements for a team. A good teamwork will bring a lot of benefits, such as fostering creativity and learning, blending complementary strengths, building trust, teaching conflicts resolution skills, promoting a wider sense of ownership, and encouraging healthy risk-taking. (Mattson, 2018). Therefore, how to work as a team is very important for a leader.
