Website Choice

Choice of Website

The website I chose to redesign is the Murfreesboro Post. The reason for selecting this website was as soon as you opened the home page, you are bombarded with advertising scrolling at the bottom of the screen. The layout of the page was very distracting. To me, the home page seemed to be centered more around the advertising instead of the major news stories. I believe the right changes in this website would make it more appealing to the general public and provide a better user experience.

Pros

I did like the fact that the information on the home page provided information related to the city of Murfreesboro and the surrounding area. On the home page, the top stories being displayed one at a time. The weather displaying on the home screen is also a nice feature. Murfreesboro Post is focused on sharing local interesting news and events above the US and World news, which while important, but not made the most relevant stories. A Central Magnet student is running for city council, a Riverdale graduate won a new car, information about the International Folk Fest. These things are some of the areas of the news that involve the community.

Cons

I believe there are always way too many advertisements flashing across the bottom of the screen. The website should provide the best user experience as possible and I don’t feel that the designers or developers considered how the user will feel when they view the content or design of the website. There are a few areas of the content areas that may need to be redone for optimal viewing. It really does seem like the website has just been thrown together quickly.

Plan for revision

The main thing I plan to do is eliminate the adds scrolling at the bottom of the screen. Occasionally it’s necessary to look at your pages very critically and consider a more intense web design strategy than usual. (Thomas, 2019) I will be changing some navigation options, making it look different and possibly adding features. I will also consider the colors, styles, content, images and the content themes.
