Research questions: How does leadership style affect organizational performance?

The research question involves non-experimental research that does not require any experiment to test the relationship between the variables. As such, the problem qualifies to be a correlational study (Neill, 2010). In this research question, leadership styles are the independent variable, while organizational performance is the dependent variable.

In this study, the variables are continuous because the value of organizational performance is obtained by measuring the change in performance depending on organizational styles (American Psychological Association, 2010). On the other hand, the dependent variables in this research question is a categorical variable. The latter is because organizational performance is determined by describing total profitability. In this study, an ordinal scale of measurement is used to describe the dependent variable. An ordinal level of analysis will help to show the change in organizational performance due to variation in leadership styles. As well, an ordinal scale of measure is the suitable technique the can be used to determine how organizational style affect the performance. It also encompasses of profitability that an organization can earn over a given period of activity. Generally, it depends on measure and techniques that the management of an organization put in place to ensure that they increase their performance.

The variables in this study fit the qualification of a correlational study because there is no manipulation of the independent variable. Also, the variable does not imply causation. Besides, in this study, a positive correlation is expected to find. The main reason is that leadership style significantly affects organizational performance (Lowry, 2011). Typically, a change in leadership style causes a difference in the profitability of a firm.

Due to a positive correlation between the variables in this study, it implies that leadership styles significantly affect organizational performance. For instance, a change in organization styles usually facilitates efficiency in running different activities.
