Research question: what is the significant difference between the processes used a manufacturing company to make light bulbs.

Typically, an ANOVA test is used to find out whether there are significant differences between the variables. It helps the researchers to know whether they need to reject the null hypothesis or to accept the alternative hypothesis (Carruthers & Maggard, 2019). As well, this research question aims at testing whether there is any statistical difference between the processes used by a manufacturing company to make light bulbs. As such, a two-way ANOVA is appropriate for this research question.

In this study, the independent variables are the type of processes used by the manufacturing companies in the production. On the other hand, the dependent variables the number of light bulbs made by the company over a given period. Besides, the variables are quantitative because they take different numerical values (Neill, 2010). However, a nominal scale is the best methods of measuring independent variables because they have different numerical values.

The variables in this study fit the qualifications of a two-way ANOVA test because the population to be tested are close to normal distribution. The latter implies that the number of light bulbs made will have normal distribution dependent on the type of production process used.

Usually, there are different statistical notation use in a two way ANOVA test. Similarly, in this study, the following notation will be used to describe the null and alternative hypothesis. N is used to show the sample size of the population, π represents the sample mean of the data for the independent variables and SD represents that sample standard deviation of the group of the independent variables (Sukal, 2019). As a result, the null and alternative hypothesis will be as follow:

H0: μ1 = μ2 = μ3 ... = μk

H1: Implies that means for this study are not all equal.

Where k = represents the number of independent comparisons.

In every research study, there are possibilities of occurrence of errors. Some of which sometimes affect the outcomes of the results. As well in this study, a type I error is likely to occur because there will be difficulty in deciding the null hypothesis. The latter can result in rejecting the null hypothesis which due to type I error hence a wrong decision about the study is made.
