I need help with rewrite my report. the question is attending a meeting group and write a report on it according to the question. I have chosen a work meeting group. all the questions are in the atta

  1. Introduction - what is the group / what was the purpose of the meeting you observed?

Group work is a member of people that we meet together to discuss about work issue that makes them interdependent to some significant degree. As so defined, the term group refers to a class of social entities having in common the property of interdependence among their constituent members.

According to Benson (2001 pg226), has defined group as “a number of people drawn together for a natural and purposeful experience involving mutual integration over a period of time” (Benson, 2001, cited in O’Hara,2011 pg.226)

The group that I attend was work group traffic control community meeting. This meeting provides details of traffic managing to create surveys around the job site also some other opinion that has been addressed in the meeting such as risk assessment, how to be safe during the work site.

This group meeting is a secondary group because its formal meeting where relations are impersonal (Cooley1909).

In this field it is frequently to have such as meeting to discuss about safety of the workers and how we can achieve to be safe In and around the work zone.

The facilitator of this meeting is the manager of our department, the rest are the workers who will also point out other that had been

  1. Communication dynamics - does everyone participate equally? Are there strategies to limit particular individual’s communication or encourage quieter members? Was communication open and multi-directional or were there hidden agendas, one-way communication etc. Give examples of your assertions.

The dynamic communication of this group is assertive communication which our facilitator communicates in a respectful behaviour which every worker feels connected one another. during the meeting everyone can participate equally to share their opinion about an incident had occur during the work without violation the right of other workers (O’Hara, 2012).

The manger set the goal of the meeting and what we have achieve what we need to be improved on. however, the use of the manger communication is critical which they play a huge role in terms of employee performance to get the trust of other employs.

The agenda that the leader used was the uniform that every employer must wear it as it is part of their prefinals as well as the safe their live as they work in live traffic. Every participant listened to the instruction that applied by the chairperson because list an items that every employ should have

agenda : a list of items to be discussed at the meeting. If an agenda has been circulated, then the chairperson raises items as they are listed. Items may be re-arranged, for instance, to discuss one item earlier in the proceedings to ensure full participation and time to do so. A typical sequence might be:

Formal meeting procedure uses the rules of debate and is controlled by a chairperson, has a minute taker, and is conducted in a way that is calculated to allow all participants the opportunity to speak. Flood and Lawrence (1987) point out that the chairperson's chief responsibility is to the participants and not vice versa.

offering support to each other is important as it creates trust and commitment, and enables people to facilitate each others' interactions and ideas. Support leads to respect for each other and a respectful hearing for each others' ideas. Second, fostering group identity leads to unity and everyone's energies being turned outside towards a single goal. A divided group has its energies turned inwards. Third, a group that works well is one in which people encourage one another's participation, are flexible,

3) Group goals - What was the stated purpose of the group meeting? Do you think the group achieved its purpose? If so, how? If not, why not?

The group goals of this meeting is to be safe in and around the job site as well as being mindful of what risk might be occur and how we can face it.

A group goal may be defined as a future state of affairs or objectives that the members of the group wish to achieve.

• Goals may be:
– Short term & long term
– Explicit & hidden agendas
– Multiple & not necessarily complementary – Individual & group

  • Goals or ‘objectives’ = what the group wishes to achieve and are often divided into:

Tasks (= what the group will do) &
maintenance (=how the group will do it) sub-

goals.

ndividual satisfaction or reward the member expects to feel or receive when the group goal is achieved

– compatibility between individual and group goals

– the relationship between members of the group

– the opportunity to actively participate in achieving the goals or revising the goals

Cooperative goal structures

• Exist when group members perceive that obtaining their goals is related to the goal achievement of other members

– Example is a football team

Facilitating the development of group goals on which group members agree (Garvin 1981) and for which they feel a sense of ownership is of particular importance. It is never appropriate for the leader to assume that the ‘working’ goal that they had in mind when setting up the group, will suffice for the group. A particular focus at the first session of the group needs to be the clarification of the group goal(s).
(O'Hara, Agi, and Rosalie Pocket 231)

In cooperative goal structures division of labour is possible

  • –  Greater cohesiveness, trust, support & problem-solving between

members.

  • –  It uses all members‘ resources & skills

  • –  Peer influence on productivity is high.

  • –  People tend to share information and resources and help each other.

  • –  There is also a higher level of interaction.

  • –  Productivity tends to be higher, but it may also be slower.

4) Leadership dynamics - Was there a leader/facilitator? If not, describe the dynamic. If so, what leadership style did the leader exercise? Give a specific example and relate to your readings in group work.

In this group there was a leadership which he showed a strong and confidant personality as he showed demand on the goals setting that was applied in the group, the facilitator motivated others to be safe during the work because it’s the only thing that will save their lives. (Stodgill, 1974)

According to the lecture four the example of the charismatic of leadership is to have a high degree of self-confidence which it was applied in this group meeting.

However, the leadership style of the facilitator was consultative the facilitator maintains the power to make decisions but consults with others individually or as a group and delegates tasks and responsibilities.

5) Conclude with - do you think the group was effective in both its task and in the group process? Substantiate your conclusion with concrete examples.
