Third Party Conflict Resolution

Granting that contributors in every single circumstance intends to resolve every conflict on their own terms without utilizing outside intervention, there are some instances that participants or organizations require third-party intervention and seek a resolution that will satisfy the requirement of both parties involved. In cases like these, businesses will hire a contract from outside mediation services to guarantee the best imaginable result. In 2016, Verizon workers went on strike which was a labor action in the United States that involved approximately 40,000 workers. Union leaders disagreed to take new contract due to several matters to include wages, job security, work assignments, healthcare, and pension issues. Our team will identify the primary causes of conflict that occurred and what could have occurred, and how both parties tried to handle the disagreements. Our team will also discourse the intervention strategies that the parties involved made use of for gain and how it aided to establish an overall pleasant solution to the conflict. Last of all, we will ascertain a supplementary intervention strategy that our group believe could have offered an added beneficial result in this issue.

Conclusion

The capacity to confer with a third party throughout conflict negotiations allows parties on both sides to be freed of making decision on some issues if an arbitrator is utilized.

Likewise, third parties can subsidize information by performing their own investigation on all involved parties. While doing so, gathered facts may be an advantage to the negotiation or conflict. For example, finding a resource that one organization possesses that the opposing party may want to obtain some legal rights in may encourage the parties to accommodate further negotiations. Arbitration is oftentimes more problematic for parties to involve because one or both parties may lose of control in the negotiation. Mediation are inclined to be more advantageous in some organizational disputes due to the outside suggestions and influence but minus the final decision. “It is estimated that 85% of mediated cases are settled, while 90% of litigated cases are settled before a judgment or jury award. Lawyers and accountants do a great service when they persuade their clients to try mediation before filing suit or demanding arbitration” (Robert Teichert, 2006)
