Course Project

The owner of a company wants to understand the issues faced at every level of the organization and is accepting creative ideas from all employees in order to improve overall operations. As an employee, this is your chance to demonstrate your understanding of various factors affecting operations management. Apply at least one of the concepts covered in this course that is of particular interest to you by creating a well-supported recommendation to improve operations. All changes to operations have an impact on the product, or the humans involved, or the culture of the company, or environmental and sustainability factors. In some cases, the change will affect more than one aspect of the company. As you write your recommendations for the company, recall the readings in Unit 2 (Chapter 4). Consider the ethical impacts or the corporate social responsibility factors that your process change will affect. You will be assessed on the Institutional Learning Outcome of Ethical Reasoning.

Use at least one source to show statistical data, facts, or other verified and relevant data/information to add credibility to your recommendation. Cite information used from your source with APA Style citations and include a reference listing of your source. If you use graphs and diagrams in any section ensure they are clear and easy to understand. There are many ways to format a proposal, but the owner has requested the following format be observed with the following headings (delete content in parentheses):

 Recommendation for Operational Excellence

To: (Owner’s Name and Company Name)

From: (Your Name, Title, Department)

Date:

Subject:

Scope of Issue: (Describe the operations issue you’ve identified in the organization that needs improvement. What are the current business priorities in this organization and how does your initiative for improving conditions link with them? You can use a real of or hypothetical business.)

Recommendation:  (Explain what your initiative aims to do. Link your strategy for improvement directly to the organization’s mission or vision statement.)

Project Benefits: (Describe benefits of implementing your recommendation. This could be a good place to incorporate material from another source to support your ideas. For instance, have there been studies conducted on implementing such a change? Are there other companies who have benefited from this plan? Remember, whenever you use information from your source, use an APA style citation to show the reader what specific information you pulled from your source to support your ideas.)

Project Cost: (Include estimated costs in money/time/resources/labor/materials/consulting/etc. This demonstrates to the owner that your plan is well thought out.)

Project Risks: (Explain how you would manage any risks. If applicable, reveal costs/risks to organization if the plan is not implemented.)

Ethical Considerations (or Corporate Social Responsibility Issues): (Explain how your recommendation affects the product, people or sustainability of the firm. Why is your recommendation an improvement in these areas?)

Implementation Plan: (Include any projected training needs, operational/technical changes, learning curves, timetables, etc. and reveal how results will be monitored to demonstrate success. This also demonstrates that you have thought through the changes you are proposing.)

Key Stakeholders: (List any Key Stakeholders/Department Heads/or others who could be affected by your recommendation and explain why these representatives should be brought into the discussion if your project is approved to move forward.)

Source: (Include an APA style listing of your source(s) here.)
