Summary

On September 18, Donald Trump announced that he is not allowing states to set their own vehicle emission standards by revoking California’s Federal Waiver. These actions come as a shock to a lot of people. Republicans are generally all for protecting states rights. Many states began to follow suit of California and since car-makers are not going to make different cars to meet different standards, it ended up becoming a sort of national standard. Many are worried that these unprecedented actions are an attack on states rights. Trump hopes that by setting federal standards that are less strict on vehicle emissions, safer cars will become more affordable. Some opposers, like Jeff Alson, believes that Trump is "doing more to destroy the planet than any other president in history."

Connection

The top 3 importers of cars into the U.S. are Japan, Germany, and South Korea respectively. Following the Obama-era standard, auto makers are required to produce vehicles that have an average fuel economy of almost 55 mpg by 2025. With Trump's policy that number would go down to 37 mpg. The U.S. election is coming up, and if a Democrat is elected into office, it is likely that the regulation might change again. Germany and Japan's largest exports are vehicles, so they already have to take into consideration the legislation of many other countries. Having all of these different regulations make things confusing and difficult for vehicle makers. Germany is already going through economic struggles. Auto sales have continuously dropped for the past year, and they are teetering near a recession

Take-Away

San Antonio does not experience the same levels of bad pollution some cities in California do, but Trump's new policy will have an effect even here. With the standard for car emissions being lower, air quality across the U.S. could decrease. It will also cause an increase in the amount of gas being bought and with gas prices being higher from the Saudi Arabia bombing, people will be spending more money on gas.

Summary

The National Football League's own Cleveland Browns, tickets have increased 11.4% this year. This is the league's sixth largest year-over-year price increase in NFL history. Despite this increase, the Browns still have the second-cheapest ticket price in the league. This is due to the fact that Cleveland was considered one of the worst NFL franchises for over several years until last year. Cleveland can attribute their current spike in ticketing pricing to the many superstars they acquired this off-season. The face that many believe to form the ticket increase is the NFL leader on social media, Odell Beckham Jr. By Odell coming to Cleveland, he brought his 19 million followers fan base along with him to Cleveland. This brought Cleveland the attention and sales needed to raise the cost of ticketing.

Class Tie

This relates to our class, because all fans who come to watch NFL football or the Cleveland Browns should be aware of the ticket pricing. As I stated earlier, Odell Beckham Jr. is bringing his 19 million fanbase with him to Cleveland. His fan base ranges all throughout the world. The NFL now showcases games in not just America, but Europe and Mexico as well. Therefore, there are fans all over globally. The fans have to take notice of the tickets rising because the money needed to save up might have to increase. If the fans are unhappy about the prices they can also complain about them. The fans must also be aware that despite the increase, they still have the second cheapest tickets in the NFL, so they should be grateful.

Personal Takeaway

I believe that the Cleveland Browns should raise their tickets even more honestly. Due to the fact that their tickets are still the second-cheapest NFL tickets, I believe that they should raise the prices more. The Cleveland Browns are no longer one of the worse teams in the NFL. In fact, they are even predicted to win their division this year by NFL analyst. Therefore, why would one of the NFL's best team's and top two talented teams, have the second cheapest tickets?
