This week you will prepare a 1-2 page report evaluating the validity and reliability of a peer-reviewed research study as it applies to an application of research conclusions. Validity and reliability

Running Head: QUALITATIVE RESEARCH 0

Qualitative research is designed to give an interpretation or a reason behind a certain action. This type of research investigates on certain relations to social life such as interpretations, meanings, symbols as well as processes. The research methods used in this type of research helps get descriptive data that is later interpreted and analyzed through systematic and rigorous methods of coding and transcribing. (Crossman, 2019). The results and conclusions of this type of research which focuses on daily life and experiences of individuals leads to the creation of new theories through inductive method which can later be tested through research.

An example of a qualitative research was conducted on mothers in economically deprived families to assess the reason behind the poor diet establishment for children. So as to get quality data that would be used to get an understanding of the social life of the economically deprived families, semi-structured interviews were conducted. This type of research method involves asking open ended questions one on one with the participant. For example, “So what would you say the healthy foods are?” (Wood et al., 2010). The research methodology was applied to a mothers because they met the inclusion criteria and were responsible for their family diet and thus could provide reliable information.

The results indicated that there was a high level of misunderstanding on health information. Others said that the family constraints inhibited them from adjusting to healthy diets. The main source of information on healthy diets was the television although people got different understandings of what was displayed. (Wood et al., 2010). After analysis of the results or the responses to the questions asked in the interview, a hypothesis of the situation was created. A recommendation from the responses was also developed to help improve the nutrition concerns of the families.
