In each of the videos shown here, an older adult describes his or her experiences with aging. As you watch, reflect on the ways in which the individual has balanced the gains and losses associated with aging. Specifically, consider the three processes key to successful development discussed in Chapter 15: selection, optimization, and compensation.

1. First, define the three processes (i.e., selection, optimization, and compensation). How are they similar to the three adaptive processes discussed in Chapter 13 (i.e., growth, maintenance, and regulation of loss)?

2. How do the activities selected by these individuals reflect their need for generativity and for ego integrity? Provide specific examples from the video in your response, and provide some additional activities that adults of this age might participate in to achieve feelings of generativity and integrity.
