Chapter 8 - Information Governance and Legal Functions: According to the authors, Smallwood, Kahn, and Murphy, IG is perhaps one of the functional areas that impact legal functions most. Failure to me

The concept of Information Governance relies much more on the idea of Record Management (RM). The information received ought to be well managed for the interest of organizational progress. As such, records have been defined in the text as “information created, received and maintained as evidence by an organization or person.” Therefore, Information Governance and Records Management go hand in hand and are almost inseparable. It is actually the management of stored information for purposes of legal obligations just in case need arises. Interestingly, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has made its contribution to enhancing our understanding of Record Management to a granular level.

As such, ISO gave a more polished definition of RM as “the field of management responsible for the efficient and systematic control of the creation, receipt, maintenance, use, and disposition of records.” (Fonseca & Domingues, 2017). This definition incorporates the holistic process of capturing and upholding evidence of info concerning all business activities. What one should take into consideration in this definition is the term “evidence.” It is proof that a given event actually took place. Ideally, one cannot record something that has not yet occurred. Sensitive records ought to be safeguarded against any unauthorized changes as well as maintaining firm audit trails for accountability purposes.
