Ethics Final Paper

The final paper requires you to demonstrate a sound understanding of the concepts and ethical frameworks that we discussed throughout the course.  The paper will be evaluated by me using an objective rubric; a rubric that you will be able to view prior to completing and submitting the final product.

A note about format:

The paper must consist of 2 full pages (excluding separate title and reference pages).  The paper must be formatted in accordance with APA 6th edition conventions.  To review these conventions, please visit the course lib-guide located in the "library resources" tab.  From there, you will click the link titled "citations."  If you have any questions, please be sure to contact Emily Bergen, the campus librarian, whose contact information is also located on the lib-guide.

Your paper must contain at least 4 sources.  One of the sources must be the course textbook, and two sources from the peer-reviewed literature.  One resource can be from magazines, newspapers, and so on.  Beyond these mandatory types and number of sources, you may have as many sources as you deem necessary.  You will NOT be able to cite direct quotes, which means that anything you cite must be a parenthetical citation.

Substance:

The paper will address the following issue:  In the context of our study of Moral Objectivism and Moral Relativism, analyze the following quote from Pope Benedict XVI: "We are moving toward a dictatorship of relativism that recognizes nothing definite and leaves only one's own ego and one's own desires as the final measure."  In your analysis, include an explanation of the theories of Moral Relativism and Moral Objectivism.
