West Consulting Modular Design Proposal

Introduction

This is a modular design proposal of the west consulting printing company. We will have a diagram that shows the hierarchical enterprise network and it will show the relationships between the access, distribution, and core layers. In this proposal we will also give a summary of the Cisco design principles and the approach that we will use in order to support the project. We will delve into certain areas such as traffic types, bandwidth etc. and the practices that we will use to address these concerns. Lastly we will have a summary of how our design will cater for modularity, resiliency, and scalability for future growth. Let us start by looking at the hierarchical enterprise network.

Hierarchical Enterprise Network

Design an enterprise data center solution that expands the campus LAN network, which has reached its capacity. The design must include the following: -A logically separated WLAN infrastructure tha 1

Cisco Design Principles

We will use Cisco Enterprise Architecture which is a modular approach to network design.

We will consider the various requirements of the network such as:

Availability of the network

The network needs to be available even in the event of a failed link

Security

The network should be secure and protect the data transmitted over it

Manageability

No matter the complexity of the network, it needs to be manageable.

Steps taken to ensure the project plan and network will support West Consulting’s strategic plans and goals

We will look at the functionality of the existing network and compare them with the desired functionality of the proposed network. We will also use the top-down approach whereby we identify the network applications and service requirements and then we design the network to support these requirements.

Areas of specific concern and best practices

The areas of specific concern will include traffic and bandwidth.

In traffic we will ensure that traffic is always there and the network does not fail through having dual power supplies and fans, and having of redundant links and components which should be hot-swappable i.e. a component can be removed without shutting down the network.

When it comes to bandwidth, we will ensure that we optimize our network so that data takes the optimal path to reach its destination. We will also upgrade the switch bandwidth to 10GB fiber uplinks between backbone switches.

A summary of how the design meets modularity, resiliency, and scalability for future growth

The design meets modularity because the Cisco enterprise architecture further divides the network in other modular areas such as access-distribution, services, data-center etc.

Modules can be added to a network to achieve scalability if needed e.g. an organization can add more enterprise campus modules.

When it comes to resilience, when failure occurs, the module can just be isolated from the network and this ensures that problem detection is quick while ensuring availability of the system.
