West Consulting Customer Design Summary





Project Summary

West Consulting is a graphic design and printing company and it has experienced growth in terms of consumer and sales volume. Due to this growth it needs to expand its local campus in Houston, Texas and it also wants to add a test location in China. Now, the company’s network does not have good performance when users access the servers that house the customer Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software. Currently the company has got 1,000 users who are housed in their two buildings, but it needs to add 500 more that will operate in the third added building. The test location in China will have 30 people and their main job will be to test the designs in the new and growing market.

The purpose of this project is to upgrade the existing WLAN solution and to also come up with WLAN solution for the third building that has 500 users. We will also come up with a communication system that will meet the traffic demands and have an IP solution that will meet the new users. We will also need to upgrade the switch bandwidth to 10 GB fiber uplinks between backbone switches and a 10GB connection to each server. In this project we will also come up with data centers that supports network and server virtualization technologies which will end up in reducing the cost of acquiring and maintaining of hardware. We will also tackle security options f our intranet servers and entire network infrastructure.

Design Requirements

What is required for the project is to come up with a secure WLAN for the extra users in the third building and to also upgrade the existing one, coming up with a communication system that meets traffic demands, upgrading of switch bandwidth to 10GB, coming up with data center and also incorporating network and server virtualization, and lastly designing the network with security in mind.

The desired network will need to perform well than the existing network and the technical constraint that we will face will include:

The current staff may lack the expertise of implementing and maintaining the envisioned network so training maybe needed.

The proposed network will use Cisco equipment; we don’t know whether operation will work smoothly with non-cisco equipment.

From the diagram we can see that we have included the third building which will have 500 users. The users will be allocated the network 196.100.1.0/24 to 196.100.5.0/24. The incoming and outgoing network will be behind firewalls.
