Mexican – Americans always had a big problem with white society, and the first reason was because they were not coming from the same country instead, they were citizens because of the war. According to EOC dictionary discrimination means treating a person unfairly because of who they are or because they possess certain characteristics. Discrimination still continues now a days, and some time even worse. The existence of civil rights was for a reason and not only to be written and approved by the government in a paper. Many people had faught with different case of discrimination and segregation to Mexican- Americans specially in World War II.

Starting with Pete Hernandez case and his representative Gustavo Garcia and his team, was a perfect example of discrimination to Mexican-Americans. According to the video “A Class Apart” this was the first civil right case that went to the Supreme Court. The treatment that Garcia was mad about not following the Fourteen Amendment that guarantee protection no matter what race or class you were. Pete Hernandez was accused guilty for a murder of his employer Joe Espinosa and sentenced to life imprisonment. The supreme court set a new trial that has Mexican-Americans in their jury to make everything fearful. According to Kiddle encyclopedia The Court's ruling served as a legal precedent used in legal challenges against unfair housing laws, school segregation, and voting rights of Mexican Americans nationwide.

The main point of the article by Kaplowitz was the creation and understanding of the LULAC that (The League of the United Latin American Citizens), which was a creation of the Tejanos. The LULAC was created because of the same reasons mention before discrimination to Hispanics and also because most of them were denied of their civil and human right. Mexican- Americans suffer segregation from schools, very notorious having a school for Anglos with all commodities and Mexican-Americans had their school very poor, according to the video they did not even had restrooms.

I do agree with the authors view points, it is incredible how people and governors did not care about their own people. They talk about the World War II where many Mexican-Americans served the country and thought that when they go back to their home everything was going to change, but surprise when they came back from the war, everything was the same way they left it. Also, when they talk about the case of Felix Longoria, he served the country and give his life for it, when he died they denied to make him a honorable funeral because he was brown, as the authors said in the video this was totally un fair for this great person that serve and make differences in our country. This case was part of the LULAC work in civil rights they do everything to make Felix Longoria funeral the best, with all his mentions and acknowledgement that he leaved in the United States. Sadly people still discriminate and think that others that have different skin color, gender, and even sexual preferences are different and do not deserve the same rights as white the “normal” people.
