Directions for the Single Page Papers
Put your name, CRN number, and date in the header. Begin the paper at the very top.
For the single page papers, you need to get right to answering the question. So, for these assignments I do not want an introduction and conclusion. Focus your attention towards analysis and the structure of your response to the question.
Use the format. You must have one-inch margins, 12-point font, Times New Roman, single spaced. Use the whole page.
Your thesis statement must be 1-2 sentences in length.
Answer the question. Your response must relate to the question. Do not restate the question as a statement.
The paper ought to break down into main ideas with support.
Organize your main points. Form paragraphs.
Be specific and use examples to illustrate your point. You should connect the information you present to the main idea that you are presenting. Do not list a string of facts.
Do not over quote or rely entirely on the quote to get your point across. You should provide some analysis of how the quote supports you argument.
Avoid pronouns without a clear antecedent or vague words.
Use Chicago (Turabian) or MLA style citations. These are available on Owl at Purdue. Use in-text citations. A page on citations is available under the syllabus. To do MLA put the last name of the source in parentheses and the page number before the period such as (Voltaire 98).
Do not be redundant.
Be specific and clear.
Be concise, cogent, and analytical
