Project manager name (your name): Student 261080

Project’s goal (reason for undertaking the project/anticipated benefits): To raise $5000 in donations for our local ALS Community and to influence employees to offer long term support for the ALS Association.

Cost estimate (this is hypothetical so do not spend too much time on this aspect): The estimated cost is $1000 to fund critical aspects of the project. Project structure (functional, matrix, or projectized): The project will use a matrix project structure that place a balanced sharing of authority between the functional heads and the project managers. The functional heads will assist in informing and marshalling their department employees to support the project goals. They have a better understanding of their employees and will offer their insight in organizing the walk to suit their department’s schedule.

People/departments involved: All employees in the central NC AHC Branches

Potential risks/issues to overcome: One of the possible issues is the failure to obtain authorization from the local government to host the walk. The possibility of medical emergencies during the walk. It is possible that the project would lack adequate support if the employees do not understand ALS.

Timeline for completion (start date/completion date): 2/15/2020 – 3/26/2020

Project scope (please see the Unit II Lesson for an example): The project scope will start with organizing promotional material, obtaining a license, securing the walk route, selling the walk branded merchandize and having the event.

Project objective: The objective of the project is to raise more that $5000 in donations to the ALS association. It also aims to have more than 10% of the employees pledge long-term support for the ALS Association.

Deliverables: The project will start with preparing promotional material, obtaining a participation license, safeguarding the commuter route, selling merchandize and initiating the event.

Milestones: Week of 2/15-2/22 will involve sourcing the promotional material for the walk. Week 2/23-2/29 will involve obtaining the license for the event from the local authorities. Week 3/1-3/7 and 3/8-3/14will initiate selling of the race related merchandize and participation tickets. Weeks 3/15-3/21 through 3/25 will involve securing the route and finalizing the walk preparations. On 3/26 the event will take place with the race walker receiving prices.

Technical requirements: The project will require the input from an ALS expert in creating an information pamphlet to inform the public. It will also require safe payment platforms for public donations. Another requirement is the use of an event organizer to successfully plan and schedule the walk.

Limits and exclusions: The project will limit its expertise on volunteer workers. It is the intent of the project to limit the cost of labor hence any experts will have to volunteer their time. The project will only focus on ALS issues and exclude any other public health issue that could undermine the project goals.

Reviews with customer: The customers, who are mainly the employees will be engaged in the project from the start. It will be prudent to solicit their opinion on all aspects from the design to the implementation of the project. Their opinion will aid in shaping the project goals and outcomes. At the end of the project they will have a chance to review the project anonymously. Since they are employees the organization, a link will be sent to their email to allow them to offer an anonymous assessment of the project.

Project Stakeholders: The project stakeholders are the employees who are the target audience and the ALS Association which is the recipient of the project proceeds. Those suffering from ALS are stakeholders since the donations will fund research that benefits them. The government and the organizations in healthcare are stakeholders due to their interests in healthcare. The local community is also a stakeholder since their activities are likely to be affected by the ALS walk directly and indirectly.

Work breakdown structure (WBS):

Importance of the WBS: The WBS simplifies the work for the project manager. It breaks down complexities in the project into a single diagram. The project manger can use the chart to have a glimpse of the whole project and its requirements. It ensures that all the tasks are met in the appropriate order.
