PART 3 – Extra Credit: 3 Points - Enhancing the Worksheet, Column and Pie Charts PART 1 – Creating a Worksheet (70 Points)

Searching for a Vehicle on the Internet

  • Start your Internet browser, and go to your favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc.).

  • Search for vehicle that you would like to purchase.

Hint: Search for a specific vehicle make and model (example: Chevrolet Camaro). To narrow the search, use keywords: (vehicle dealer name), and two-letter state abbreviation (FL).

  • You need to find five (5) Prices: one Vehicle; five different Dealers (website addresses).

IMPORTANT: You will need to copy and paste the URL (address) into your worksheet for each vehicle you find, so you may want to save the five different website addresses as Favorites in your Internet browser.


Getting Started
  • Create a New Microsoft Excel Worksheet (2013)

  • Name of File: Buying a Vehicle

Creating a Worksheet
  • In cell A1, type the vehicle Make and Model you want to buy. (Example: Chevrolet Camaro)

  • In cell C1, type Your Name (First & Last Name)

  • Starting in cell A3, type column headings for data in table below.
    (Note: Dealers should be typed in A3, Prices in B3, and Website URL in C3).

  • Enter each Dealer, Price, and Website URL, below the column headings in rows 4 - 8.

Column Width
  • Change column A width to “AutoFit Column Width”; Change column B width to 13.

Entering Functions and Formulas
  • In cell A9, type: Average, then enter a Function in B9 to calculate an average vehicle price.

  • In cell A11, type: Down payment, then enter a Formula in B11 to calculate 10% of the average price.

Formatting
  • Merge and center the title (Vehicle Make and Model) in columns A through B.

  • Use Arial 10 pt. font for all information (text and values) in the worksheet.

  • The title and all column headings should be Bold.

  • Center align Prices column heading.

  • Format as follows:

  • All Prices and Average Price with a dollar sign ($) and no decimals;

  • Down payment Amount as Comma Style with 2 decimals.

Editing Cells, Renaming & Deleting Worksheets
  • Change the column heading from Dealers to Vehicle Dealers.

  • Change Sheet1 worksheet name to Sales; Delete Sheet2 and Sheet3.

PART 2 – Creating Charts (30 Points) Note: Do not include the Average Price in the charts!


Creating a Column Chart - 20 Points
  • Insert a Column chart for Dealers and Prices (select “3-D Clustered Column” type).

  • Move the chart to a “New sheet”; Name the sheet: Prices Column Chart
    Note: Dealers should be shown on the Horizontal Axis (X-Axis)

  • Include the Chart Title (Above Chart): VEHICLE SALES.

  • Include the Horizontal Axis Title (Below Axis): DEALERS.

  • Turn off Legend (”None”), if necessary.

  • Add Data Labels to (Show) “Value” for all Prices in the chart.

Creating a Pie Chart - 10 Points
  • Insert a Pie chart for Prices (select “3-D Pie” type).

  • Move the chart to a “New Sheet”; Name the sheet: Vehicle Pie Chart

  • Include the Chart Title (Above Chart): Vehicle Sales for 2011.

  • Move the Legend to the Top (”Show Legend at Top”).

  • Add Data Labels “Value” and “Percentage” (More Data Label Options…) for all of the Prices in the chart.

  • Change Data Labels position to “Inside End”.

IMPORTANT: When you finish Part 1 & Part 2 of this Exam, you should have the Worksheet, Column Chart and Pie Chart (3 worksheet tabs) in one file named Buying a Vehicle.

PART 3 - Enhancing the Worksheet, Column, and Pie Charts (Extra Credit - 3 Points)
Enhancing the Worksheet and Charts
  • Apply Font colors, Borders, and Shading to the worksheet.

  • Change colors for Data Series, Walls, Floor and Chart Area of the Column Chart.

  • Change colors for Data Series and Plot Area of the Pie Chart.

Note: If you use dark colors for shading, use light/bright colors for text to increase contrast.
For example, use Red, Yellow or White text if you use Black, Dark Blue, or Purple shading.
