Evidence-Based Practice Proposal-Section A: Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment Tool

Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment Survey Tool

The organizational Culture & Readiness for System-Wide Integration of Evidence-based Practice Survey was the selected tool of choice (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015). The results of this tool will advise on the organization’s culture and readiness for evidence-based practice project.

Organization’s Readiness Based on Assessment Tool

Based on the results of the Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment Survey and Tool, this organization can begin evidence-based practice. There were nineteen questions and all but three were four and five. EBP is a part of all professional practices. The administrators are committed to supporting physician and nursing staff in evidence-based practice care. The organization will provide a nursing research department with dedicated nurse researchers and scientist to have worked that is peer reviewed and published in several journals. The administrators and health insurers will support evidence-based practice by providing education hours, mentoring programs and libraries to the staff (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015).

Barriers

Most of the barriers to the evidence-based practice would be organizational. Early intervention screenings and treatment services would need to be incorporated into general health care practices. The use of evidence-based medications would have to be incorporated into care along with behavioral therapies and supportive services (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) & Office of the Surgeon General, 2016).

Facilitators

The facilitators of the evidence-base practice would be the health insurance companies, health care providers, administrators, community leaders, policy- makers and substance users. They would all work collaboratively to improve quality of care and treatment of substance abuse users.

Clinical Inquiry

Substance use disorders are a serious medical illness with sustained clinically evident impairments in health, society and voluntary control over drug use. Substance use disorders are complex because the can range from mild to severe with possible unmeasurable durations (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) & Office of the Surgeon General, 2016). The care the organization provides will be evidence-based.

Strategies that Strengthen the Organizations Readiness

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has approved three medications to treat opioid use disorders; treatment programs and practicing physicians should start offering these medications. The evidence-based practice should incorporate medications, behavioral therapies and recovery support services in general treatment of substance use disorders (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) & Office of the Surgeon General, 2016).
