Final paper guidelines

The final paper should be no more than 9 pages, including references. Please use APA format.

1. Abstract: summarize what the study is about (Less than 150 words)

2. Introduction

Brief introduction of the background/incentive of your research

What is the purpose of your research;

Problem statement

Summarize significance of the topic relative to the study area

Briefly discuss your research question and/or hypotheses. Briefly introduce the background of the topic, if the topic is not familiar to the general readers.

3. Literature Review and/or theoretical framework.

Relate Scholarly Literature to the Problem Statement

Analyze Literature; What is it actually saying

Relater your problem statement to literature:

Clearly state you Research Statement

Clearly identify/state your Hypotheses

Build a case for the study—why it is important? You can justify your study from the implications of potential findings of the research and the theoretical contribution of the research to the literature.

4. Method/Research Design

How you are going about studying your problem (qualitative / quantitative)

Measurement- How are you going to measure the variables involved in your study

Data Collection – How and where did you get your data?

Research Models

How did you go about analyzing the data

The main focus is: what research design will be selected? Why? How is the research design fit with your research? What will you plan to do in the research design? Describe and give reasons. What is the significance of your selected research design? What do you expect from the research design? What are the strengths and limitations of this design? Please also specify your sample, how the sample observations are selected, and the measures of concepts.

Abstract:

  • Abstract is succinct and quickly tells the reader what the study is about.

Introduction

  • The introduction is well organized

Literature Review and/or theoretical framework

  • Provide a comprehensive review of the related literature

  • The appropriate number of primary articles is cited and the relevance of the articles is clear.

  • The type and amount of information provided builds the case for the study.

  • There is a clearly stated hypothesis that a) makes sense in light of the introduction’s content; b) can be tested with your design;

Method

Participants/sample:

    • Your Method should describe the participants that you hope to include (and how you will obtain them as participants), your procedure, and the materials you will use.

Procedure

    • Should provide enough detail so that someone reading your paper could actually carry it out.

    • You should include the text of instructions to participants, any “cover story” or explanation for what they will be doing, or any other information participants will receive before or after they participate.

    • The design is clear – including selection of your sample, choice of design, and other procedures to maximize internal validity. Also - enough information about the procedures is provided so that the reader can understand and conduct the study, and this information is presented in an organized and logical fashion.

Measures (if you select a quantitative analysis):

  • It is clearly stated how the variables, including both DV and IV(s), will be measured.

  • Other questions or measures (such as demographics, manipulation check, etc.) are described clearly, completely, and concisely, if needed.
