Subject/Task: Create a 5-6 page analysis which outlines group dynamics observed in the movie, Freedom Writers. This is not a review of the movie or a “move report”, but an analysis of the dynamics in the movie as a whole. You will specifically address dynamics with appropriate citations from your text, lecture, or other sources, which support your thoughts.

Purpose: Assessing group dynamics is a fundamental task as a social worker working with groups.

Therefore, the purpose of this assignment is to critically analyze the group dynamics in Mrs. G’s classroom and the school system from the movie Freedom Writers. You will be assessing the group as an outsider/supervisor. Be sure to incorporate theory and concepts from your text. You must connect your assessment to social work text, theory, knowledge, skills, and/or behavior(s).

What feedback/analysis would most help Mrs. G. and the school system?

Audience: Please pay special attention to who your audience is.

  • A professional analysis for Mrs. G. outlining the dynamics in her Freshman English class for the purpose of growth, supervision, and assessment. Please recognize that she will be sharing this with administration as well.

Genre: Your paper must be/have/address:

  • 6-7 pages total, 12 point font, double spaced ~ Included title page and reference page

  • 3rd person (you are the outside expert)

  • APA needed

  • Minimum of 4 connections to your text plus one outside source

  • Four sections addressing group dynamics including 1) values and ethics, 2) diversity, 3) other, and 4) other. (see below)

    • Include section on values and ethics (personal and professional)

      • For example, where did you see values/ethics in Mrs. G’s world? How does it connect to code of ethics?

    • Include a section on diversity (although diversity is weaved throughout most of the dynamics)

    • You must address 2 additional aspects of dynamics such as culture, roles, leadership, communication, administration, supervision, and/or others. You may choose to address additional micro, mezzo, or macro interactions that are not listed. (For example: you could have a paper that addressed values and ethics, diversity, cohesion, and communication)
